It's sucked for a long time but the last couple seasons are actually not bad. They removed a lot of the internal 'rules' in the show bible for how to write the characters and that's really paid off in the story telling. I've really enjoyed some of the newer plots that focus on background characters that have been a part of the show for decades, but whose lives haven't been explored yet.

There will be elections, and Democrats will absolutely be able to run. But if Trump (he's already joked about running again) or his pick do not win, then Vance will not certify the election. Eventually that will land at the Supreme Court, and then it's anyone's guess as to whether or not they follow the constitution or just make up bullshit to support their agenda.
Every one of them will fall in line when they remember Trump's daughter in-law runs the RNC and their reelection funds are now contingent on obedience.
