Everything old is new again. Lemmy is Usenet without the organized hierarchy, BlueSky is the old Twitter, and Gemini is updated Gopher.
Oh great, more plastic junk.
Elon’s looking like he’s got a Michael Jackson style chin implant.
“Why not both?”
Not sure how your plex server is set up, but if it’s trying to transcode the content, that could be introducing lag. Some settings to try:
- check server for DirectPlay and see if turning it on makes a difference
- make sure the max video setting is 4k on the server so it’s not forcing a transcode down to something lower res
- there’s a “how much processor to use” setting on the server as well — try turning it all the way up
- try playing something then look at the activity page on the Plex server to see what it’s doing (is it transcoding for example)
Other than this, try posting over at the forums on the Plex website if you don’t get an answer here.
“Stall”
More likely to start going in reverse.
Oscars are a way to market yourself. So if you’re an up and coming actor they matter. Better jobs and higher pay after a nomination. For an established high paid actor like Jackson they probably don’t matter.
Remember the Chevy Volt? Pepperidge Farm etc.
Don’t care if he was Sicilian. His “crying Native American” anti-littering commercial made a huge impact. It says a lot about the US that you don’t see these kinds of PSAs anymore.
Security updates need to be available for at least seven years. Not just a phone problem either. Forced obsolescence just creates e-waste.
I guess New Republic didn’t get the memo to suck up to trump now like the other media outlets did.
If they had set the upcoming Starfleet Academy series before TNG we could’ve seen a new actor play young Picard and others.
“we could save $1t by eliminating the department of education”
[x] doubt
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a map printed on only one side of the paper. Makes me wonder if this was a run of misprints or a subway poster or something.
Language evolves.
Is Southwestern Bell liable for what I say on the telephone?
PG&E shouldn’t exist after all the fires they’ve caused.
They don’t care because there are no serious repercussions. All that ever happens is a slap on the wrist and a class action lawsuit resulting in “free credit monitoring” for a few months.
Dumbass.
It is bizarre to me how many solar and EV-related companies have gone bankrupt considering the demand.
“Cap and stitch” estimates skyrocketing
City leaders will decide which portions of the highway project to include in December.
What a waste of money.
PlexAMP — any way to average song volume?
Is there a setting somewhere in Plex or on the server so that some songs don’t play loud and others so soft? Thanks in advance.
Austin Energy pushing “hydrogen”
As its end-of-year deadline approaches, Austin Energy is busy crunching numbers, hoping to finally nail down a much-anticipated update to its Resource, Generation and Climate Protection Plan. Utility staffers have spent the past month in and out of Electric Utility…
This is just greenwashing the original plan to add another natural gas power plant. What a scam. “Oh it could eventually run on hydrogen too. In five years. Maybe?”
Trump/Musk sweepstakes winners are “spokespeople” and not selected by chance
A lawyer for Elon Musk 's political action committee told a judge in Philadelphia on Monday that so-called “winners” of his $1 million-a-day voter sweepstakes in swing states are not chosen by chance but are instead chosen to be paid “spokespeople” for the group. GOP lawyer Chris Gober also said th...
Thousands of bats to be displaced by I-35 expansion
The expansion of Interstate 35 through Austin is set to displace more than 100 homes and businesses. But an even larger community is being forced to relocate: thousands of bats that roost in the highway’s bridges. While the Texas Department of…
This project is such a waste of money.
Plex remote — web or app?
Are there any good iOS apps for rating songs while they play in Plex on the TV? I can’t find a way to rate songs using an AppleTV and its remote.
I did try the Plex app on the phone, but you have to leave it as the frontmost app or it will disconnect by the next time you open it (app flushes/sleeps). If it doesn’t disconnect then instead you get a mismatch of what’s playing and what can be rated (album art/track name/rating pane don’t match). There’s also no widgets from the app to do this from on iOS.
Or is there a web app I can run on the server and connect to from the phone’s web browser to rate items as they play?
Comcast considering spinning off cable networks
Comcast may spin off cable TV channels into new company and seek streaming partner for Peacock.
Yet more Broadnax cohorts coming to Austin
Carrie Rogers, whose office oversaw the city’s legislative agenda and the charter amendment process, will leave Dallas and join her former boss T.C. Broadnax...
Isaiah Bradley’s backstory
Finally got around to watching “Falcon and The Winter Soldier” and it would have been so much better if Isaiah Bradley’s story had been the first episode, or a stand-alone movie. Instead it’s just told in exposition. If you go read his backstory, it is a pillar of the F&WS plot. Disappointing that an interesting chapter of this universe is confusingly meted out in bits and pieces across episodes. Here’s hoping his “prequel” eventually gets told.
As an aside — am I really supposed to believe Falcon doesn’t get paid the big bucks and can’t afford to pay to fix up his sister’s boat?
No city grant for Zilker Summer Musical this year
The theater organization is seeking to raise $300,000 by December.
Police “G files” now public
More than a year after Austin voters OK’d a measure to make them public, the so-called “G-files” of police officers accused of misconduct are now available to the public. Disclosure of these disciplinary files was a sticking point in discussions…
Most CapMetro stops don’t have a bench
A new audit by the transit agency finds 53% of the agency's 2,500 bus stops lack a bench. More than two out of three bus stops have no shelter.
Or shade.
I am also reminded of how CapMetro spent money to rip out the perfectly fine existing shelters and benches to replace them with the newer, flimsier ones.
Council rejects Texas Gas rate increase
Despite reining in its initial proposal, Texas Gas Service has still failed to win over City Council in its endeavor to raise prices for Austin ratepayers. The utility faced backlash this summer with news of its plans to aggressively hike…
Feature request: show clipboard on paste
So I know we can post text and images using the link button, but it would be nice to confirm what’s being pasted before uploading. A show clipboard, or a small preview of the clipboard would be nice.
Currently when pasting an image into a Lemmy post, it only shows a Lemmy URL before committing, not the image. Kind of unnerving when you’re thinking “did I copy the right image for this post, or is it about to upload something I don’t want it to?”

Apple renews “Sugar”
Surprising. I didn’t think this one had much buzz. Also felt like a one season show.
