Yep! I just want more people who would do so.
Finally someone who in this thread viewing it as a good thing and not as an some outcast behaviour lol.
Gen thing is pretty simple. People from that particular gen get used to doing things in a way that is famous in their gen. They see what the other people are doing in their age and copy them to feel more inclusive.
PCs were famous and trendy in previous generation. Now it's mobile phones. This is why we see gen z not being able to operate PC like their phones and previous gen not being able to do the vice versa. Pretty simple concept imo.
Coming to second part of your message, yes I'm trying to be in on these long form media and this is why I started to post on Lemmy lot recently. But also I have feeling there are people like me who could match my enthusiasm who are worth finding and for the rest of the people I'll try to send smaller texts as many have advised here 👍
o
the universe is in constant change, one cannot stand still. You are either progressing, or declining, but you are never just hovering in the middle.
That hit home. Thanks for sharing this.
Glad to know there's someone like me. We are in this together my friend! We shall find something out.
Also, if you post to a community that is pretty quiet, once you do, it’s no longer quiet ;)
Haha true. But I was afraid that I wouldn't get much replies over there especially since my post is about replies xD.
Guess it's about which generation you are from. Old generation who grew with PCs tend to be on keyboards, while gen z tend to be on phones.
The thing is I'm kinda stuck in between. Genz doesn't have attention span to read texts while old gens hate to use mobile phones. I am someone who is tech savy from genz and I love using tech from both generations. I need to find my people.
That was funny lol.
Days are moving fast and if you can make little progress every day, you'd be progressing at something fast.
I deem this as my own theory, The ThanksTubbs Theory.
(Sorry if this was cringe)
Does anybody else always find themselves sending large enthusiastic texts to people but don't usually receive such texts?
Large enthusiastic texts as in large texts about topics, you have common with the other person and enthusiastic about.
I am a person who prefers texts over calls. Maybe that might be the reason, the people I have in my circles are more into calls than texts.
But this happened with my online friends as well whose only mode of communication is via texts.
I used to have a friend who would do so but with the topics only he was interested in lol but I used to kinda act like I'm listening to him by asking small questions . He did try to complement my listening skills once. We used to chat for hours together. Sadly life moved on and he branched away from my friend circle (which is kinda non-existent rn because life ¯\_(ツ)_/¯).
Or am I just too boring or loud? Is this a bad habit? Sometimes I can't stop making walls of texts. (Oops here I go again)
Side note: Subscribe to c!doesanybodyelse@lemmy.world and help it grow. I wanted to make a post there but it was really dead. (It doesn't have to be a lemmy.world instance.)
Lol yeah I do kinda find them ugly but since they are everywhere, they look less ugly as I got used to seeing them ig.
Thank you kind stranger
What?! Nobody told me that we got a new moon.
What's good about it?
Crocs were hated? When?
For me they just popped out of nowhere and everyone started wearing them all of a sudden which I found it weird. I am yet to own crocs myself. Not that I hate them, nor I am trying to avoid them, I just found them as weird.
What are you using instead?
I have read the comments here and all I understand from my small brain is that, because we are using bigger models which are online, for simple tasks, this huge unnecessary power consumption is happening.
So, can the on-device NPUs we are getting on flagship mobile phones solve these problems, as we can do most of those simple tasks offline on-device?
Never heard about that Pokemon.
I can't even do a proper night-out so I have nothing to say about your question. I just hope you get better from your depression OP. Here, enjoy my upvote and comment notification dopamine!
Rafa retires rather quietly
The moment has come and he retired very quietly. None of the tennis greats have attended, nor did he have a great send off video. The final on-court interview wasn't in English either.
Tbh I liked this way tho. It was very simple and I would have cried hella lot had it been done like the Roger Federer's retirement. I got to watch him fight for one last time and his fighting spirit was shown again in 2nd set. Thank you Rafa for the memories.
I knew a woman on FB who thought that "thumbs upping" her comments was somehow offensive.
Online texting/interactions do cause a lot of misunderstanding especially when you are talking to someone who is not very online.
My friend wasn't that simple though, she kept insisting that she didn't care if I texted or not. Now that I think about it, I am not very sure to text her back.
This scene made me remember some things
This interaction of Okarun not to interact with a girl who really talked with him literally a day before, is something I used to do or maybe even now.
So what is this behaviour? Introversion? Social anxiety? Shyness?
I enjoyed the scene because it's relatable but also it got me thinking why do I react the same way.
Did you relate to this scene? Did you grow-out of that phase of ignoring girls unless they interact?
(I know all of this little cringe to make a post upon, I'll delete this if it doesn't fit here)
People who have quit gaming did you experience this lack of concentration too?
I have quit ranked/competitive gaming and do only casual gaming whenever I get some interest. Honestly I was happy that I've quit gaming as a whole because it was a real addiction. Countless number of times I have uninstalled games only to get so tempted that I would download them again despite them taking 1hr to install.
From that kind of situation to come to this situation where I only play whenever I want to, is a great progress I felt I have made. I have got lots of time on me as expected, but I don't spend it wisely and infact in more "brain-off" fashion eg scrolling, chatting on discord, youtube etc.
Now I feel whenever I come across anything that needs my brain to be spent upon, I feel so reluctant to do high brain activity. I feel there's lot more difficulty concentrating and being patient with my task.
Is this because I have quit gaming? (sounds crazy I know) that my brain has become rather less active than usual?
I recently come across a random study on surgeons that game a bit during the week are doing better at their job than the ones who don't game. Not sure how of it is true but I sure have come across concepts like gaming keeps your brain active and make you perform.
Take this entire assumption as a grain of salt because I haven't done any huge experiments nor do I have any conclusive evidence but a small hunch that I just came across. I just wanted to know your experiences after you quit gaming.
YSK that there's a bot that's tracking trending communities across Lemmy
There's a bot that's tracks Lemmy communities for Active User Growth and Subscribers Growth each day and posts it to the following community.

Check out the trending communities and join the ones you like!
Recommend me an app which has OCR functionalities like Google lens
I just want to extract text from images accurately. That's it.
Our phones DO listen to our voices 24x7
(I know many of you already know it but this incident I experienced made me so paranoid about using smartphones)
To start off, I'm not that deep into privacy rabbit hole but I do as much I can possibly to be private on my phone. But for the rest of phones in my family, I generally don't care because they are not tech savvy and pushing them towards privacy would make their lives hard.
So, the other day I pirated a movie for my family and since it was on Netflix, it was a direct rip with full HD. I was explaining to my family how this looks so good as this is an direct rip off from the Netflix platform, and not a recording of a screening in a cinema hall(camrip). It was a small 2min discussion in my native language with only English words used are record, piracy and Netflix.
Later I walk off and open YouTube, and I see a 2 recommendations pop-up on my homepage, "How to record Netflix shows" & "Why can't you screen record Netflix". THE WHAT NOW. I felt insanely insecure as I was sure never in my life I looked this shit up and it was purely based on those words I just spoke 5min back.
I am pretty secure on my device afaik and pretty sure all the listening happened on other devices in my family. Later that day, I went and saw which all apps had microphone access, moved most of them to Ask everytime and disabled Google app which literally has all the permissions enabled.
Overall a scary and saddening experience as this might be happening to almost everyone and made me feel it the journey I took to privacy-focused, all worth it.
YSK that there is a dedicated general community on lemmy.world where you can posts your general thoughts on lemmy, reddit etc
Why YSK: I have seeing been a lot of general posts on various communities where they don't belong. There is a perfect community for this.
Posts like:
"Feels like I am spending less time on social media after joining lemmy" on ShowerThoughts community. This is a not a shower thought. This is more of a general thought which belongs in !general@lemmy.world
"This is not a shitpost but I am loving lemmy" on lemmyshitpost community. This is not even a thought sharing community yet it has been posted and been upvoted to frontpage. This belongs in !general@lemmy.world too.
I hope the moderators of all communities tighten up a bit and help posts go where they belong.
Wimbledon starts today!
With Wimbledon starting today, I can feel this community could getting a bit of traction. We should pump up the activity here as much as possible using this Wimbledon as the catalyst to grow. Keep talking tennis!
That being said, Novak gonna wipe the floor again this time.

Has anyone found a way to properly edit and delete your reddit content?
I heard about all the ways that you can do this with shreddit, redact, power delete suite etc but heard users say that their content just respawned days later. With only a day left before api change, I need a proper way to edit and delete my content on reddit.
