A new Lemmy version dropped several days ago and it seems that upgrading to it will not cause any problems. However the upgrade can take around 30 minutes for larger instances, so I decided to tell about this beforehand.

The upgrade starts at 15:00 Finnish time. Be prepared!

Uusi versio Lemmysta tuli ulos muutama päivä sitten ja nähtävästi siihen päivittäminen ei aiheuta ongelmia. Päivitys voi viedä kuitenkin noin 30 minuuttia isoimmilla instansseilla, joten päätin kertoa tästä etukäteen.

when trying to upload this gif I kept getting an error saying it was too tall, even when resized to 200x300 it still gave the error. Not a huge issue as I just uploaded through my lemmy.world alt

I randomly have the instance giving an error message, to come back a few minutes later.

Not sure if it's on my side or not.

I recently noticed this lemmy instance in my all feed. They have an odd premise in their instance sidebar:

And then, on their front page today, there are some links to breitbart and some to russia today. When calling them out on that, I got this comment from their instance:

Is this some kind of right-wing instance? Should we defederate from it?

I can't seem to post any images as of late. I either get a 413 error or a 400 error.

I sent a sopuli link to my wife tonight and she sent this back to me.

Since the last update, deletions do not work and edits don't always federate.

Lemmy version 0.19.4 introduces 3 4 relatively intolerable bugs, and 0.19.5 only fixes one of them.

• cannot post, risk of data loss
• cannot cross-post, but no data loss.
• can only visit the default timeline view
• (update) cannot search

Hello there! Because of performance problems and latency I arrived at a conclusion that moving to a dedicated server would be the better option for Sopuli in the long run. I looked at Hetzner's server auction page and got one from Germany with beefy specs: Intel's Core i9 processor, 64 GB of RAM and two 512 GB SSD's in a RAID configuration. The price isn't too much, around 38 € per month plus VAT.

I already told about the migration coming on Matrix and Mastodon but it's time to make it official here.

The migration starts tomorrow at 12:00 (Finnish time) and it will likely take several hours. Be prepared!

EDIT 27.06.24 19:48 I underestimated how long this all will take, and there were problems with restoring backups and networking. Regardless, the migration is done and we're up again!

Terve! Suorituskykyongelmien ja latenssin takia tulin johtopäätökseen, että dedikoituun palvelimeen siirtyminen on parempi vaihtoehto Sopulille pitkällä aikavälillä. Katsoin Hetznerin palvelinhuutokauppaa ja hommasin palvelimen Saksasta mehukkailla ominaisuuksilla: Intelin Core i9 -suoritin, 64 Gt keskusmuistia ja kaksi 512 Gt SSD:tä RAID-asetuksella. Hinta ei ole liikaa, se on noin 38 € kuussa ja lisänä arvonlisävero.

Kerroin jo palvelimen siirrosta aiemmin Matrixissa ja Mastodonissa, mutta nyt on aika tehdä asiasta täällä virallista.

Siirto alkaa huomenna klo 12:00 ja se vie todennäköisesti useamman tunnin. Varautukaa!

EDIT 27.06.24 19:48 Aliarvioin kuinka pitkään tässä kaikessa kestää, ja ongelmia oli varmuuskopioiden palautuksessa ja verkkoyhteydessä. Joka tapauksessa siirto on valmis ja taas ollaan ylhäällä!

I forgot we have a Matrix chat server until after Sopuli came back. Thanks to Rynach for rebooting I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I created the community aimusic. However it does not seem to federate to other instances.

Trying to search it from e.g. lemmy.world, mander.xyz or lemmy.dbzer0.com results in nothing. The pages just show errors. Also after a few attempts and using the search function from the respective instances yields nothing.

Did this happen with any other communities recently? Is this temporary and will resolve itself within the next days, or is there some deeper issue?

Huomasin, että artshare-yhteisön viestit olivat vähentyneet valtavasti. Kysäisin asiasta, ja näyttäisi siltä, että sopuli ei saa lemmy.worldista viestejä laisinkaan tai niissä on viivettä.

Mistähän johtuisi?

Basically what the title says: Sopuli is super slow to load when I'm logged in, taking anywhere from 10 seconds up to a whole minute to load the website. I also just noticed that the Subscribed tab takes considerably longer to load that Local. The only add-on I have enabled on Sopuli is uBlock, but I've disabled that, but no significant effect. Is this a server thing, ie is Sopuli getting heavy traffic or is the mistake more likely to be on my end?

Jälkimmäisessä oli alunperin jpegin tiedoissa orientaationa top-right, jonka myöhemmin korjasin top-left. Pohdin olisiko tuosta kiinni ja korjautuisiko preview jos jokin lemmyn cache nollautuisi tuolle linkille.

Hello I just noticed that the custom theme options in the user settings seem to not apply correctly when I select them, when selecting any one of the custom themes available here the page becomes very buggy

Not sure if this is related to the 0.19 upgrade or not but I wanted to make this post so hopefully it can be fixed.

Ainoa asia jota tässä kuluu on siihen käytetty aika ja vaiva.

Hei, anteeksi jo valmiiksi huonosti pohjustetusta postauksesta. Haluaisin kysyä muilta sopulin käyttäjiltä, miten he ovat kokeneet Hexbear- instanssin? Tällä hetkellä sopuli on "defederoitu", jonka tajusin etsiessäni kuntoilukanavaa, joista suurin taitaa olla juurikin Hexbearin puolella. Tarkoitan, että osa hyvästä sisällöstä on vaarassa jäädä sinne loukkuun.

Kaksi asiaa, miksi kehtaan asiaa tuoda esille: A) Muissa isohkoissa yhteisöissä on käyty keskustelua puoleen ja toiseen asiasta. B) Viestihistorian mukaan defederaatio tehtiin aikanaan varotoimena.

Siksi lähinnä herättelen keskustelua muiden jäsenten kanssa.
