Things that get your post/comment removed:
-AI generated content
-anything in the banlist
-posts that are so off topic that they don't fit on 196 at all

-corpoposting
Ban length varies, and is mostly based off of whether or not I think you will change your behavior. I have baned certain people for upwards of 2000 days.

JAN 2024 UPDATE: MOLDY MONDAYS
Monday is now moldy Monday. on this day and only this day moldy memes are not only allowed, but encouraged. The crustier the better. The type of thing that's been reposted at least 2,000 times with filters and bad crops and watermarks and hopefully minions. please caption with moldy rule
If you have any issues, please reach us at 196mods@protonmail.com. PLEASE do not dm me, as I am not consistently available and tend to step away from the mantle for weeks to months at a time.
The rule has since been changed to be lemmygrad or hexbear account. Do you know why these two instances are targeted? New to lemmy and made an account here, but was considering hexbear as well at first glance.
You deleted your comment, but I can still answer. Basically, both home servers tend to revolve around alt-left fascism, so we're extremely wary of what these users have to say.
Well sort of the point of 196 is that you can post almost anything, the only rule is that you have to post each time before leaving. This rule isn't enforced for obvious reasons, unlike the ban against tankies.
You have a link near the bottom of the channel's description at the right, which in English it's likely called 'Moderation history' or 'Moderation log'. It isn't only a ban list, but general information on mod activity.
Also, on every instance, there is a link called 'instance'. It contains information about which lemmy instance is federated and banned by your instance.
Does the mod log only log activities from a specific instance visited, your instance, or all federated instances.
Cause I've seen way more activities in the modlist than possible on my small instance, not to mention almost all the removes are from communities outside of my instance.
Hi! I don't want to break any rules so I'd like to ask first, what are the rules on self promotion? I was thinking of making a post about a 20-30 minute queer fishing game I made for this year's pride (this one to be specific) and thought it could be nice to share here but don't want to break a rule to do so.
Question is Lemmy.world affiliated with the tankies that made lemmygrad or is it separate? I didn't know about any of this prior so now I'm worried a bit
Yeah, the post is missing its newlines. If the post correctly used newlines, new paragraphs, and better markdown overall, it would probably look like:
The post, but correctly marked down.

I got banned because I accepted a free NFT thing without realising what it was. Lmao. Was during that time Gobby started power tripping with his autobans
Later I got banned from reddit entirely for saying "Men will blame everything before ever admitting that toxic masculinity might be the source of their misery"
I’m curious to know more context abt the statement revolving around hexbear & lemmygrad? I’m very new to the fediverse so i don’t know much about these instances
Tankie pro-mao/stalin cesspools that ferment people in a powerful echo chamber. Basically hyper-reactionist toxic "leftists" looking for any excuse to stir up trouble
I was on Raddle and they treat those words like they're equivalent to the r-slur, so it's good to have a Reddit alternative with at least a shred of sanity
There are some communities that consider them to be slurs against neurodivergent people. There's definitely an argument to be made there but at the same time they're so commonly used to refer to neurotypical people as well that it's also easy to argue that they don't do enough harm to be considered slurs.
maybe consider (temporarily? permanently?) hiding vote-count on posts, to make it seem less dead in here. it doesn't matter how many votes a post has; it just matters whether it's higher or lower than others. for functional reasons, at least.
i'm seeing nine posts in the last hour, and top rated post of all time at 680 upvotes, both figures being below 1/10th of what appear(ed) on the sub.
that's by reddit measure, which is "a" measure, the only one most of us have for reference. i suggested upvote hiding because the reduced count may be discouraging.
they are not bad in themselves, however: if i were, say, moderating this place, I'd say these numbers are too damn high because scary x3. and yes, they're high as hell for general lemmy standards; from everywhere I've looked, that's obvious.
but the "Reddit perspective" is my reasoning for my suggestion, and i think those reasons will fade away anyway as people acclimate to these new figures, much like someone gets used to big numbers being normal on Japanese restaurant menus.
thanks for running this place; i think you're doing a great job of saving some of this culture
or we could just all stop caring about the vote count instead! why even pay attention to that? I'd honestly rather have two good comments on a post than 300 upvotes, or view counts, or whatever. couldn't care less about any of those.
I know it’s really hard not to notice the votes on a post or comment, even though I’m not actually looking for it. I do agree with the person you’re replying to that it does make everything feel dead. I just have to regularly remind myself that this isn’t Reddit and the site is growing. Just startling tbh. Going to look at someone’s suggestion for UI that let’s you remove vote counts to see if that helps
Those with accounts created on lemmygrad (an instance created specifically for tankies) are basically on probation. If they misbehave even a little they get kicked out.
posts that are so off topic that they don't fit on 196 at all
What is the topic? Is this like a de-facto meme community? I often used the subreddit to post things like media reccomendations and talk about random stuff without any images. Would that be allowed here? thanks in advance :]
if there were to be a post that was, for example, "Chicago bulls pull dylan gongsworth from the minnesota rufflers, leading to widening predicted point gap" and it was like a photo of football, or a link to an article, we'd remove it.
No AI generated content, so no Midjourney, ChatGPT, etc.
There are several reasons for this:
It's low effort content that can drown out things people have put actual effort in (but that's not really a problem here since 99% is low effort shitposts anyway)
Its training material is gathered without permission of the authors.
It's wasteful in terms of energy and thus emissions
real question. I'm assuming from the name that you can say trans rights are important. killing Nazis here is cool right? like opening up the physical rack, pulling out the backup drive, and bludgeoning them with it inside the housing? or would that be a violation of tos with your hosting company? is it only okay to suggest shooting them? do I have to be clear its only okay to do outside the data center where youre hosted?
Sorry to bother you here, but I'm having trouble sending a private message. My posts aren't showing up but I think my comments are, and 196 is the only place it happens. I don't suppose there's any insight into this?
Ive been lurking here a bit and still have absolutely no idea what is going on in 196, so how are we to determine what counts as relevant to the community? (not a criticism, but an honest question)
Why do you have mods who have advanced the claim that Jews deserved the Holocaust because "Communism is just as genocidal as Naziism" and it's really a tit-for-tat?
Do I have to link to an article explaining that Double Genocide Theory was created by Nazis and their sympathizers to JUSTIFY the Holocaust after denial failed?
And was advanced by the Reagan Administration and America's fascist puppet-states in Eastern Europe, including Poland which deindustrialized and gave money to fascist militias to expel Jews without officially doing so?
