The New York Giants are releasing the veteran quarterback on Friday, the team announced. Jones' release comes four days after head coach Brian Daboll announced his benching ahead of Week 12's game versus the Buccaneers.
The Daniel Jones era in New York is now officially over.
RIP my sweet prince. I never stopped rooting for you. Classy final speech too, took responsibility and was grateful for the opportunity he was given. Great dude, average NFL QB. In a good offensive system he could have some success going forward.
Honestly, there are so many teams with shit QB situations right now, this might be the best thing to happen for his career. Bail on the dumpster fire and go prove you can still sling passes elsewhere.
Sucks about the $11 million he's not going to get paid, but then it sucks to suck.
Only thing wrong with his game is the fumbles. Before the got Malik Nabers no one on that team could get open in the passing game. I can see a team like the raiders or browns turning their teams around.
I always figured that there are 32 starting QB jobs in the NFL at any time, but there are rarely more than 10 good QBs at any time. Most teams will have to make do with mediocre QB play and hope to hell their run game & defense are pretty good.
Which is crazy when you consider the sheer number of athletes in the world, there must be some draw to other sports, or reluctance to take on the QB role, that is creating a shortage.
Like theres's got to be some up and coming cricket bowler in India who has a degree in finite number theory and an international chess rating who could easily throw spirals and learn to call games from the line of scrimmage, but he's like "Nah, I don't want to make ten times as much money."
Remember when he had that monster run against the eagles but then just before he was set to cross the goal line a sniper got him (he tripped)? We’ll always have the memories, Danny
Any guesses as to who claims him? I'll guess Dallas. With Prescott out Jones might be a better option than their current back up. And Jones would be super hyped to beat the Giants
He could also go take the starting role away from Minshew in LV, and the Panthers might be a cozy landing spot to walk on and start. Miami or the Jets could also use him as an upgrade at backup. If I were him, I wouldn't want to be mixed in to the Colts QB controversy, but he might be thinking longer term after Flacco retires and Indianapolis releases/deals Richardson.
Probably. You gotta figure the previous regimes (Judge, Shurmur, McAdoo 🤮) have usually been given two years before getting fired, Daboll/Schoen are midway through their third year and the team has steadily gotten worse. Don't think you can keep them next year, assuming they finish 4-13 or something. The few decent players on this team are fed up with losing.
In the right system and with a decent team around him, he’ll be a good QB. When the guy is always running for his life, how do expect him to do anything decent and consistently.
