Damn.
I didn't have "Raw Milk encouraged by the US govt. causes second pandemic in 5 years" on my bingo card for 2025.
I remember when they were announced, everyone with half a brain and not directly linked to the companies making them thought they were stupid.
Similar to the company that is super keen to put fibre optics through the UK water pipes :|
- Advertise job at 1/3 going rate
- Get no applicants
- Use this as justification to hire somebody from a cheaper country on a visa that you control
- Pay the somebody 1/3 going rate, knowing that they will probably do lots of free overtime because of the chilling effect of a visa
I can hear the bin lorry sounds about 5 minutes before they arrive.
It gives me time to panic, then discover that I did in fact remember to put them out.
It feels a bit like when a company has been taken over by a VC firm.
And you start finding out how they're going to suck the juice out, while all the management involved in the decision pretend it's all rosy.
Also, the finance department going "what do you mean a screen needs a consumable?!"

Seems reasonable to me.

I was under the impression that you had to be electric only, but apparently you can have a standard gas tariff alongside.

It's fantastic, isn't it? Being able to get to TCR without changing beats the hell out of faffing around with Waterloo or Paddington.
It's also good for getting flights from LCY.
So long as you have the space for a receiver, it should be the first thing anyone buys for home cinema.
It gives you so much flexibility.
And since everyone is gradually upgrading their non UHD ones, you can get a receiver with HDMI switching for very little now.
I remember first learning about the russian news pieces about how they're going to wipe the UK off the map.
Honestly, they're a bit weird. They've been doing them for years, and I'm assuming they're usually just aimed at a domestic audience.
Like this one from a couple of years ago, where Channel One threatened a nuclear tsunami against the UK.
Maybe it's because we're far away enough to paint a picture that we're all hunting for bullets under the couch, rather than working out where the last hobnob went.
Bumble bees do not produce large amounts of honey.
They keep enough food for a couple of days bad weather, but otherwise they don't overproduce at all.
One of HS2's huge benefits will be taking large amounts of passenger traffic off the ECML, freeing it up for more freight. Just gotta hope 2a gets un-cancelled...

Farage will not hold face-to-face surgeries
Nigel Farage says he has been advised it could lead to violence and refers to the death of Southend West MP Sir David Amess.
Following Mr Farage's claim that he had been advised not to hold in-person surgeries by the Speaker's Office, the Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle said he would advise MPs to take advice from parliament's security team and "do so safely" if they asked him for advice on holding surgeries.

I've recently started buying 3D blurays
Anybody else on here on the 3D train?
Having recently finished setting up the projector (bin rescue), screen (£20, gumtree), and working out the glasses required (£20, eBay), I finally got my first taste of home shutterglass 3D.
We watched Pirates!, as I happened to have the disc in 3D already. 3D lends itself well to Aardman's models and physical sets. I like 3D best when it's like looking through a window, or onto a stage.
It also turned out that my steelbook of The Hobbit contained the 3D copy too. We're only 30 mins through it, but there are some nice shots (I particularly liked the one of Bilbo watching Gandalf through the window)
I checked with CEX, and 3D discs are now mostly quite reasonably priced. So we went and bought about 70% of the local branch's stock, for the princely sum of £20.*
While yes, it is a novelty, and a bit of a gimmick at times...It's fun. And gives me a bonus inexpensive collectable hobby!
*(Pro-tip: If you're going to do similar, go when it's not busy, and apologise to them in advance. The 3D discs are all mixed in with the standard ones, and the poor guys spent about 20 minutes hunting)
