ugh i wish
  • Damn.
I didn't have "Raw Milk encouraged by the US govt. causes second pandemic in 5 years" on my bingo card for 2025.

  • France publishes new provisions making solar mandatory on parking areas
  • I remember when they were announced, everyone with half a brain and not directly linked to the companies making them thought they were stupid.

Similar to the company that is super keen to put fibre optics through the UK water pipes :|

  • Even a priest won't forgive you for this one
    • Advertise job at 1/3 going rate
    • Get no applicants
    • Use this as justification to hire somebody from a cheaper country on a visa that you control
    • Pay the somebody 1/3 going rate, knowing that they will probably do lots of free overtime because of the chilling effect of a visa
  • I walked my trash cans to the end of the driveway this morning before the kids were up.
  • I can hear the bin lorry sounds about 5 minutes before they arrive.
It gives me time to panic, then discover that I did in fact remember to put them out.

  • 'You deceived millions of us!': Trump fans tell him they're outraged over Navy pick
  • It feels a bit like when a company has been taken over by a VC firm.
And you start finding out how they're going to suck the juice out, while all the management involved in the decision pretend it's all rosy.

  • Gotta use the budget on something I guess
  • Also, the finance department going "what do you mean a screen needs a consumable?!"

We're looking at swapping the conference room projector for a screen now. £200 bulb, £600 for a mahoosive TV that's much brighter.

  • Trump’s evasion of January 6 accountability will echo for next four years and generations to come
  • And did you know if you were caught and you were Smoking crack,
McDonald's wouldn't even want to take you back
You could always just run for mayor of D.C.

  • Wales tourism tax: £1.25 per night charge could start in 2027 - BBC News
  • Seems reasonable to me.
If your area of the country is desirable for tourists, why not make a small levy to help maintenance?

  • Snake Bridge over a canal passageway, the UK
  • And for storing old shopping trollies.

  • My HA Instance is ready to take advantage of some very cheap energy.
  • I'm looking forward to going over to Agile in the near future.
I was under the impression that you had to be electric only, but apparently you can have a standard gas tariff alongside. We just need to work out a few things like "how much could it cost us to make dinner during the peak?"

  • Being an adult
  • You have to clean it regularly using a cleaner that descales.

  • Penguin hole
  • You take the green USB, it's Ventoy.
You click the wrong option in the list, and suddenly it's GParted.

  • The Elizabeth line is rewriting the UK’s rail station usage charts
  • It's fantastic, isn't it? Being able to get to TCR without changing beats the hell out of faffing around with Waterloo or Paddington.

It's also good for getting flights from LCY.

  • I built a Home Theatre for the Price of a Soundbar, and it SLAPS!
  • So long as you have the space for a receiver, it should be the first thing anyone buys for home cinema.

It gives you so much flexibility.
And since everyone is gradually upgrading their non UHD ones, you can get a receiver with HDMI switching for very little now.

  • Winter fuel cut to put 50,000 pensioners into relative poverty
  • I remember first learning about the russian news pieces about how they're going to wipe the UK off the map.
Honestly, they're a bit weird. They've been doing them for years, and I'm assuming they're usually just aimed at a domestic audience.

Like this one from a couple of years ago, where Channel One threatened a nuclear tsunami against the UK.

Maybe it's because we're far away enough to paint a picture that we're all hunting for bullets under the couch, rather than working out where the last hobnob went.

  • They're called leaves for a reason.
  • Bumble bees do not produce large amounts of honey.
They keep enough food for a couple of days bad weather, but otherwise they don't overproduce at all.

  • Rail freight scheme sees 64,000 less lorry journeys in first year
  • One of HS2's huge benefits will be taking large amounts of passenger traffic off the ECML, freeing it up for more freight. Just gotta hope 2a gets un-cancelled...

(Which is why I get grumpy when headlines scream "it'll only save 30 minutes": It's not the only reason!)

I've recently started buying 3D blurays

Anybody else on here on the 3D train?

Having recently finished setting up the projector (bin rescue), screen (£20, gumtree), and working out the glasses required (£20, eBay), I finally got my first taste of home shutterglass 3D.

We watched Pirates!, as I happened to have the disc in 3D already. 3D lends itself well to Aardman's models and physical sets. I like 3D best when it's like looking through a window, or onto a stage.

It also turned out that my steelbook of The Hobbit contained the 3D copy too. We're only 30 mins through it, but there are some nice shots (I particularly liked the one of Bilbo watching Gandalf through the window)

I checked with CEX, and 3D discs are now mostly quite reasonably priced. So we went and bought about 70% of the local branch's stock, for the princely sum of £20.*

While yes, it is a novelty, and a bit of a gimmick at times...It's fun. And gives me a bonus inexpensive collectable hobby!

*(Pro-tip: If you're going to do similar, go when it's not busy, and apologise to them in advance. The 3D discs are all mixed in with the standard ones, and the poor guys spent about 20 minutes hunting)
