France publishes new provisions making solar mandatory on parking areas
France has enacted provisions mandating solar installations on parking areas, detailing calculation methods, exemptions, and fines for non-compliance.

And it was about fucking time !
We have so many idiotic projects destroying natural habitats to put solar panel on them while urban and periurban area are dramatically under exploited.
Now do malls and warehouses roofs too please, and then buildings above a certain height/surface. -
This include all existing parking lots above 1500m2 that will have to be retrofitted.
It's a great news.

You have to be a little careful with what seems "obvious". Solar roadways had some enthusiasm behind them, but they turned out to have a lot of challenges:

That being said, I can't think of any reason why this is a bad thing. It does seem really obvious with no major drawbacks

God I wish Australia would do this. For a baking hot country there are so few car parks with any shade. Occasionally there will be a handful of trees that cover a quarter of every 20th car. Just enough to piss you off when inevitably yours is not that car.

The town I live in has these at my shopping centre, best place to park in summer. I wish they'd do it on the other car park as well, so we don't have to fight over the good shade.
