I bet this would sound similar when typed on
Yeah, to be clear, I just mention clickbait titles to say "no thank you", and the Fediverse doesn't need that.
I'm borrowing the term "growth hacking" from the VC "growth at all costs" community, but using it as more of a comparison. Growth is good, but uncontrolled growth is called cancer. How can we cultivate good, healthy growth, and what goes too far?
I think GIFs are kind of in a grey area. They can start to create the same stale meme feed as you mention, but if there's some meat underneath that, that makes people stick around, then I think it's worth it.
By posting consistently, I don't mean spamming. It's more "try to be active". You can't start a community by assuming "if you build it, they will come". As an example, I started moderating !msp@midwest.social, and I've helped it out by posting interesting local news articles. I don't just automatically repost everything though, that would be too spammy. I read the papers and specifically think about what articles would be interesting to post there.
Focus on actually helping out the working class and you'll get all the votes you need. Until then, throwing out a few progressive scraps has stopped working because people are sick of the bullshit rainbow capitalism.
This podcast is very relevant:
Thanks for posting, and especially thanks for posting original content! You've got a good setup, but I've actually got a weird question, how do you like that mouse? I've thought about getting one, but for now I'm using the Logitech Ergo M575
Totally. Even if you have good intentions, it will be abused at some point, either by you or someone else with bad intentions.
Good question, I reached out to them to ask. No idea if they'll answer back, but if they do I'll update here. If anyone else happens to know too, that would be good
I tried poking around the HTML and didn't see any way to tell the original published date. If you see some way of determining that, I can definitely add that in
For the icon, you'll want to make sure it doesn't have anything cut off when viewed as a circular version. Not sure what the best term is to explain it, but for the Lemmy web UI, it does border-radius: 50% !important;
to exclude the corners of the image. Any size works though, I can downsize as necessary if it's too big. Same thing for the banner, 5.9:1 (ish) ratio is the most important bit, I can downsize as necessary.
Thanks, I think you're posting that because the link is better for mbin? I tried to include the right format in the body, but I've edited it to use the format you're using. Went over to view the post from moist.catsweat.com (great name btw, works nicely in the Firefox tab bar ) and it seems like it works now?
Definitely, I'm in no rush. Excited to see them!
What do you mean by Loopless? I'm running GrapheneOS with sandboxed Google Play services that isn't logged in to any account and the app works normally as far as I can tell. At any rate, might be worth posting about in !loops@lemmy.world, someone else might be having the same experience as you.

Rules update and banner request
You might've noticed that some titles are now prefixed with [R]
. I added a note to the sidebar, but just to expand on that here, it's to denote content that's original to Loops vs content that's reposted from other platforms. Lemmy doesn't have flairs/tagging yet, so that's the best option for now. That will let people easily skip posts that are just reposts, and also act as a visual guide to how much OC Loops is getting. Suggestions on improving that are welcome as well.
While I've got your attention, if anyone has artistic skills (or not, I'm not picky) and wants to create a banner image, that would be much appreciated. The best aspect ratio is 5.9:1, but whatever works.
I'll also take a community icon if anyone feels so inclined. I made one to the best of my abilities, which are not much.
Also, if anyone wants to join the moderator team, post here or DM me. Thanks!
There's advantages to being passive aggressive, like making the other person feel like an asshole. Only works if the other person has the capability to feel shame, though.

If you're already a fan of Oglaf, or if you just like dirty comics, join us over at !oglaf@midwest.social! I think the site itself best explains the style:
> This comic started out as an attempt to make pornography. It degenerated into a sex comedy pretty much immediately
I'm posting old comics sequentially until we're caught up, and new comics as they're posted on Sundays.
As you might expect, a lot of the posts are NSFW. Today's daily post is SFW, so you can get a sense of the humor, even if you're at work. You shouldn't be if you're in the US, it's Thanksgiving! In honor of the webcomic, I hope you get stuffed today 😉

I wonder if there's any crossover between the privacy and tankie parts of Lemmy. To me, this is obviously taking advantage of people's fear to force in authoritarian measures, à la Four Horsemen of the Infocalypse. I mostly wonder because I was just talking about China on Lemmy, saying that they're not any better than any other country, even if you ignore propaganda/Sinophobia/whatever. Moves like this make that argument obviously true to me.

Revolution is always a huge gamble. You might think things can't get worse, but they very much can.
Oh, I don't think the web version allows for browsing videos at this point. It's still in heavy development. I can log in on the web on Firefox, but that just lets me change account settings and whatnot.
Might be worth flagging that to @dansup@mastodon.social. The FAQ page states unambiguously that Loops won't do that:
https://loops.video/help-center/frequently-asked-questions
Might just be ill-advised copy/paste of legalese. If he's asked about it and defends the TOS with that in it, then I'd start to worry
Here's my impression of Brazil as an American (I think it's a country?)
You have to be a little careful with what seems "obvious". Solar roadways had some enthusiasm behind them, but they turned out to have a lot of challenges:

That being said, I can't think of any reason why this is a bad thing. It does seem really obvious with no major drawbacks
