It's an excuse for the profit line not going up and a desperate squeeze for a few more dollars in profit for their quarterly that they hope their investors don't realize cost more to fight than made so that the cash keeps rolling in.
This kind of tactic of over punishing the poor relies on the stupidity of the wealthy. I don't get how they don't see it as insulting.
Maybe? I had to pass 3 in a row to clear the captcha and it yelled at me every time I thought I was getting it right. And decided I wasn't human by the third each time.
I just made a browser swap until it stopped asking me to do a captcha at all.
It really felt like whoever tagged the image and set the generative images didn't communicate and failed somewhere to connect. Which made it a really bad captcha.
So I got my inkbird ITH10s and they are at least for me what I was looking for.
They aren't all perfect and have a slight variation between them but they are consistent and only cost me $14 for 6 of them. And I'm really only trying to get a rough idea of difference between enclosure types.
But yeah these do feel consistently like e-waste that for most people's need of tracking if their humidity on their filament has gone too high that the answer is just the color changing paper readers. That or old mechanical ones that are always on in a simpler way.
Yeah and not ones that pretend to do that by claiming they support regular progressives but then immediately ask you for your income level.
To many are just pretending to be that and then hoover up money for themselves from the liberal idea that money is helpful alone.
This captcha wanted something from me that I just don't know what. It's like they tested a new AI image generation tool and it got every single prompt wrong to let me succeed it.
The only right way to play was to not play at all.
So the first round was cat faces and bunnies and that failed and then that became cookie cat faces, where I'm still not entirely sure some of them were cookies and those failed. And then it started doing weird cookie blobs and hippos and dramatic bunnies.
I failed the captcha 7 times before I simply gave up and opened the webpage in Firefox to finish my purchase.
If they are gonna use prompts like that... They shouldn't use prompts like that.
I still don't know where the hippos came from. They started appearing after the like 3rd time failing the captcha. It started out as like cat cookies and bunnies and got more deranged with each fail.
Really funny if it wasn't super frustrating at the time.
First generational home buyers who lived in a corporate owned apartment complex and paid on time for the last 2 years.
Like literally only for immigrants who had been imported in and proven to be helpful to the economy.
And the business loans were the same way but only for black men who had already been running the business for 3 years in specific industries who has already received a pell grant. So like 5 people they likely new and wanted to give money to directly without giving it directly.
Hyper specific to help the least amount of people and then murderous war machine to finish anyone else off outside of that.
Unsolvable captcha where even the AI got lost on the prompt
I mean seriously. What the heck is this?
None of the boxes I clicked on helped and it just kept making more dancing hippos appear each time.
That and:
"I mean if push comes to shove we can help a small very specific subsect of you guys, after all the rest of you are doing exactly as well as our corporate donors want you to be and that probably means pretty good, we don't think about it very much and figure your complaints are just people being needy.
But I mean what could the orange man even offer, he acts like there is something wrong too. He's wrong and bad! Let's stay the same, updoots in the center!"
I've learnt something this past week. About the Earth. And about love. I guess love is like the ozone layer. You never miss it until it's gone.
But, this is a different kind of sad, altogether.
I was in some European city
Yup, they were trying to cover for it being Transylvania and they just hadnt bothered to learn any of the city names around them.
Dracula confirmed.
As someone else in this predicament.... Not much.
Lemmy sucks.
Vance is a smarmy piece of shit who will do anything for power and will bend over backwards for his owners who picked him to be vice president to make sure they had control when Trump dies.
Vance is absolutely much more the issue cause he won't have enough charisma and self aggrandizing to stand up for his own ideas like Trump does that slows his party down and occasionally creates tension. He will just "yes and" whatever is needed to be done.
Agreed. They still think being not trump is the easiest way to power since single identity politics is losing its charm.
A party that runs on norms and expectations of how they and the system are supposed to work are hoping that if they do it all right the new owners will feel inspired to keep the game running too until they can get back into power.
It's not all that surprising.
Yeah I mean a couple people are gonna end up spending their money poorly. Probably use it for vanity projects like building rocket ships with their names on it and carving out mountains for "art" projects.
See how the wealthy treat the planet it's obvious that no one deserves it. Maybe we can ask people for what purpose they want to be alive first and give them just enough life to do that so they don't get greedy.
Well yeah, the world and by extension your life is mostly harmless. It's quite the statistical anomaly when you do get harmed but it's not to say it's impossible.
People do tend to get stuck in that awareness of chance of harm and often over prescribe it to certain parts to keep up the fear. That's probably cause people are also mostly stupidly uninformed.
See all the maintenance and tracking of physical portions of my adult life are fine. I have plenty of space to remember what devices need what servicing or care, to pay attention to changes in performance or observe wear.
But the cultural and societal stuff is like voodoo magic to me. Surplus cash in escrow, down deposits, and HELOCs, heck even cultural gossip as a standard of conversation. Nah doesn't do anything for me.
Ask me to manage my physical existence and I can do so indefinitely without complaints. It's the imaginary adult stuff that is beyond me.
There were a lot of "twists" the show seemed to have thought were smart but largely ignored any and all character development for the sake doing whatever it thought was cool while missing the beat of what was actually cool.
And the endless wave of introduction of mostly nameless characters for them to kill off to avoid ever having to kill off main characters was annoying.
Season 2 lacked good story telling.
Working on it. Waiting for some packages.
The rectangular ones are slightly more reliable from personal experience but likely just as possible to be low quality. From working with them the design layout leaves less space to get obvious flaws such as the RH sensor being installed facing the board which seems to be true for most of the round ones, they also have a separate and dedicated temp sensor unlike the round ones and use a double battery setup since voltage can also affect the accuracy of the reading.
But the RH sensor between the units seem to be identical as is the inability to calibrate.
Personally the paper strips are very reliable if just looking for a binary answer of if it's gotten past a threshold and are incredibly cheap.
Abe recommended an electronic daughter board sensor that was cheap but requires skills I don't have.
And I have found medical grade ones that can be purchased cheap "used" as they are often single use for shipping purposes to make sure the item was kept in specific conditions. But that brings me back to waiting for the. To arrive and test.
TL;DR
These cheap electric square or circle ones are both luck based with some preference to the square. But cheap paper humidity sensors can be gotten if you just want to toss them in a bag to make sure they haven't gotten water damaged as a binary identifier.
For reliable accuracy look elsewhere.
Sigh, why do people use these hygrometers?
These have to be the least accurate things I have ever seen.
The rectangular one is accurate or accurate enough and has been what I used but I noticed files all had cutouts for these round hygrometers...
Well from my 6 pack 1 is within a margin of error to even be useful.
I get they aren't expensive but seems like a waste of money for this bad.
I have a concept of a plan for desiccant spool weights
Which is to say, not very far on this at all but I think I have a good idea on how have my cake and eat it too for desiccant for my spools.
I am finding I can't get the humidity below about 50% in my AMS and the silica I am using needs constant refreshing.
Well it seems there is stuff called activated alumina that is pretty good and honestly about the same costs as silica beads, but I need to be able to put it in the oven to refresh it. Which doesn't work well with my 3d printed desiccant holders.
Insert, cheap tea strainers. It seems I can get ones that are 4cm in width by 6cm in height that are made out of stainless steel that I can actually put straight in the oven.
So, I am working on getting the parts and items but was wondering if anyone else has done this or have any suggestions before I start grabbing stuff?
Ahh nothing like a Geranium in full bloom in Mid November
Zone 7B.... I think it's been a bit warm out.
Do I need to learn a 3D modeling software?
So, I'm trying to print some older models from thingiverse and I have discovered that basically all the files I want to print have glaring flaws in them.
Internal free floating structures, connector pieces and holes that are the exact same size... So on and so forth...
Do I need to learn a software like CAD or Blender to fix these? I seem to be able to do some basic stuff in Orca Slicer but it honestly seems like as much of a pain to modify the parts there as it would be to use a real software.
Is there one that's easier? I think I messed around with SketchUp once upon a time.
I am worried this feels like opening a can of worms just so that I can make a thing that already exists in a dozen forms better.
Trump’s victory was not a surprise if you talked to voters.
The voters I spent time with were energised by the president-elect’s messages. By contrast, Harris had no clear vision and no shared rage at the state of the country, says Guardian columnist Owen Jones
> Kamala Harris was seen by many as simply continuity Joe Biden, a president who has long had a negative approval rating. When asked last month what she would have done differently from Biden, Harris answered: “There is not a thing that comes to mind in terms of – and I’ve been a part of most of the decisions that have had impact.”
> There was no clear vision, no shared rage with the American people at the state of the country: if there was anything deeply wrong with the US, her campaign seemed to suggest, it was the existence of the Trumpist movement, and voting for Harris could finally turn the page on that.
The part that the Democrats missed again and again is that the issue with America is not just that people were and are willing to vote for Trump. It was never gonna be over just because he wasn't elected. Despite that being the message from large amounts of DNC leaders and commentators.
We can blame voters all we want but at millions of people that becomes a concept more than a specific person or group to blame. There are problems that need to be solved with more than status quo and centrism. And it doesn't start and end with Trump.
I hope we remember that as we see more of him than ever.
Lemmy has made me hate people more than any other social media platform.
Truly a pretty terrible place for any kind of social activity.
People here are super self righteous and unwavering in their beliefs, quick to insult others and be generally bitchy, pedantic and quick to dogpile. Worst of all while still usually slightly wrong about a thing, but unwilling to hear it.
It's basically the worst parts of reddit users where we have boiled it down to the most affluent or socially insecure.
Even if it's as simple as a question people jump to defend their position with insults rather than answer it cause they get worried the person might be confused and it's best to just make sure it's a closed community as quick as possible.
This isn't an open community it's a private gated one where everyone jumped the fence and is scared that the wrong person might have come in with them.
Condescending is not welcoming. Upvoting cause they are your in group isn't community. Berating outcasts cause you at least don't feel like them is still bullying.
Apparently, the last time I owned a working 3D printer Solutech was still in Business
Man, what else have I missed?
My Neighbor didn't grow Heritage Sunflowers but Prehistoric ones
As far as I can tell they are over 9 feet tall... What the hell did they bury in their front yard?!
Over under on having more green beans than I know what to do with?
Yeah... This is half a packet of seeds and they are literally hopping from the fence to tree branches literally a couple feet away.
I swear it said it was a bush type too and this is more forest.
Premature Fajita Night
Well the branch holding my bell peppers fell off entirely from the weight.... So guess it's fajita night.
I honestly have so many Serranos and jalapenos but am the only one that loves spice so.... On the plant they stay for another days nachos.
And yes I know that is a leek but my onions aren't ready and it's a kitchen scrap garden. So using what I got.
Conservative Pundits, money didn't make them happy so they convince people who do need money that it wouldn't make them happy either
Most conservative pundits out there seem to all talk about how they wanted to do something specific with their life but it didn't work out. They like to blame the current systems and government for not doing enough to make them famous or popular or cool with the youth.
They then convince a bunch of people who are also unhappy but could have a lot of their issues with lack of time and resources fixed with money, that if they are unhappy while having money dumped in their lap than these normal people will be unhappy with it too. Hoping they fix some arbitrary reason they aren't more famous.
Join us as we hunt for the illustrious and hidden giant bell peppers
My in the ground bell peppers are freaking massive.
Opinion in the room on Pop-up/Non-Permanent Greenhouses?
So, what's the general feeling on those plastic popup greenhouses?
After a particularly rough month with my plants I am considering getting a popup style plastic greenhouse for my plants.
I am kinda hoping that it would help to keep the moisture up and the shade up since a like half dozen of my peppers just got sunrot.
I have noticed my plants under my bug netting do better and my pepper plant in the ground under it doesn't have sunrot. I think it would also let me keep my pots longer in fall since in in zone 7 and cold snaps happen.
So.... Any thoughts? Tips? Etc?
You guys have so many pretty gardens so now it's time for my ugly one.
I rent in an urban area and was given a backyard full of 6 foot tall weeds. Over the winter I managed to somewhat reduce their numbers and have been fighting them down since but also I didn't really have any money for gardening so I just went with direct inground with a bag of miracle grow for fertilizer and some cheap mulch for bedding.
Pretty much a scraps garden. I have green onions and regular onions, garlic cloves that sprouted, bell pepper and jalapenos, a potato plant, 2 basil and 3 Thai basil, a daikon scrap I'm letting flower I hopes of seeds I can plant next year, and all my beans and peas on the fence over there.
I also planted a blueberry bush that I realized I really should have kept in a pot cause I realized how long that thing is gonna grow for.
I also threw potatoes under the bush in the far back that is doing pretty good and a strawberry I won't ever be able to eat the fruit from because the critters get up earlier in the morning than me.
Cheap IDEX 3D printer questions
So, I have always wanted to do multi filament printing. The thought of doing multicolor or washable supports has been such a cool idea and I tried to make that a reality all the way back when I bought my Geeetech A10M... And oh boy did I hate it. (Don't do single extruder multi filament kids, it ain't worth the headache.)
So, with only my trusty prusa mk2 at my side I'm thinking of finally getting an IDEX machine and trying again right this time. Then I looked at the price of the Prusa XL and died a little.
So, this is where I am gonna ask for some help. I saw that Flashgorge is selling their Creator Pro 2 for only $400 and with a cheap upgrade for a magnetic plate seems like it would be an awesome deal even if it's a bit small of a build size.
Or I could go 3rd party and get the JGMaker Artist D Pro IDEX 3D Printer (which I have never heard of) for the same price but with a heck of a lot more build space.
Or I could swallow my pride and a shit ton of credit card payments and do just the 2 head semi-built prusa XL for 3x the cost.
So essentially has anyone tried the Flashforge Creator Pro 2 and thinks it would be worth it for basically half off? Have 3rd party Chinese brands gotten more trustworthy and actually able to print decent at these insanely low prices? Or is it still one of those you pay for what you get and if you want good multi filament printing you have to pay for it?
If he can't win then none of us should! ...Wait
I mean come on! Like, sure ok then, please go on ahead.
Pumpkin Cocktail Syrup
So it's the season, just carved the first pumpkin of the year and decided to use the insides and leftovers to make a pumpkin-pumpkin spice syrup that is truly heavenly.
14oz of pumpkin guts and roasted flesh boiled and pureed in the water 28oz of water 28oz of raw sugar 2 full sticks of cinnamon 9 Cloves 4 large slices of candied ginger 4 cardamom pods 1 vanilla pod split insides removed and then the pod itself as well
Used an immersion blender to puree the pumpkin further with just the water at first then added everything else and boiled, simmered for about 15 minutes lid on and then cooled and strained.
*You can use dry spices and vanilla extract I'm just a sucker for raw ingredients, and cooking like I'm a witch apparently.
The syrup is so so good. I combined it with apple cider and very caramel forward rye whiskey I have and am in love.
Do you guys have different versions you make or thoughts on the syrup for other cocktails to try? I'm trying to figure out what to do with a liter of the stuff.
I would share a photo of it but I'm honestly holding it in an old Rao's sauce jar cause I didn't realize all my swing top bottles were dirty ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But yeah it's not nearly as pretty as the stuff other people do.
