Besides your belief that there is no higher power, what are your thoughts on supernatural phenomena?
  • I have a “theory” that in these places where there are higher than normal “ghost sightings” and “encounters” that the spaces between our universe (think of the string theory of the universes) and another are even closer than “normal”, and that these “sightings” and “encounters” are a part of that crossover, and we just don’t currently have a way to measure it or interact in a meaningful way.

I also don’t really understand string theory all that well, I mostly just have a half-baked idea of what it is and how it works, so be gentle, please!

  • If I go to Canada can I retire there and draw SS from the US? Also can I go to Canada buy a cabin or house with a plot of land and not work? Unless I just needed some walking around money?
  • Do you think you can produce enough food in a 3 month growing season to keep you fed and healthy all year long? Do you already have a full set of proper winter clothes that are warm enough to make it through a Canadian Winter? Do you have a vehicle that has a block heater installed in it already, and winter tires for it? How are you going to pay for gas, and heat your house? And pay for electricity? And you may want to consider pot plant selling as a hobby instead of a main income source, since everyone grows their own already.

  • The problem isn’t housing though, it’s the cost of living. EVERYTHING is more expensive in Canada, since almost everything is imported. Since the growing season is only about 3-4 months maybe (except for parts of BC), almost all food is imported (usually from the US, and as soon as those tariffs hit, the already-high prices are going to skyrocket). Clothing (of which you need double, since winter), books, school supplies, electronics, tires for your car (again, two sets), just every-fucking-thing is imported and expensive.

Housing costs are the least of your problems.

  • Money. It’s always money.

    From the article:

Achtemeier charged as much at $4,500 per truck for work that often took him two hours or less. Achtemeier advertised his services on social media nationwide, doing business as Voided Warranty Tuning (VWT) or Optimized Ag. Between 2019 and 2022 his company took in more than $4.3 million in gross profits.

  • We can’t choose our blood, but we can choose our family. I’m sorry yours is being shitty to you.

If this is newish behavior, then you may want to consider distancing yourself from them, give them time to come to their senses.

If this is just more of the same-old, same-old from them, then it might be time to consider making your own family. By that I mean being selective about who you keep and who you cull.

You are not required to keep in contact with horrible people, just because you happen to be related. There are plenty of other people out there who are worthy of your time and respect.

  • is "oh boy" considered a gendered term?
  • FWIW, as a woman, I’ve never cared or felt excluded when people say “you guys” or “dude”. I say these things all the time in casual conversation. The only time I’ve felt weird about it is if these terms are used in a less casual setting, and even then, it’s usually because someone has used these terms and then realized that there is, in fact, at least one woman present, and then they start tripping all over themselves to correct their wording, and it’s awkward as fuck (and a little funny) watching them try to sort themselves out.

  • anyone else treating with bupropion?
  • It was really effective (increase in focus & motivation, large decrease in depressive symptoms) for both my depression and for my ADHD when combined with my normal meds, but I couldn’t help but notice wild hormone fluctuations (that were absolutely as a result of the bupropion and couldn’t be attributed to anything else) that only got worse as my dosage increased. These hormone fluctuations caused a whole span of other issues, everything from emotional instability to cramping and my period going really out of whack. It was very reminiscent of going through puberty, honestly. And all of that went away when I switched to something else instead. Shame, really, as the replacement meds aren’t as effective, but they also don’t make me feel like I’m 13 again either, so ultimately it’s a win

  • Halloween movie recs?

I missed out on much of the Halloween fun as a kid (thanks to my very religious upbringing) and am picking up the slack now as an adult.

This year we watched Hocus Pocus, the original Beetlejuice, Blade, and Interview With The Vampire. The up next list includes The Fly, Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, and Labyrinth.

What else should I add to this list?

Why don't we refer to twins and triples as a litter?

    Technically they're littermates...

Still pretty smol, and learning to cat

Obligatory not-my-cat. This is Holly, the new smol. She’s eating the stick end of a feather toy. I’m told it’s the tastiest part.
