If you were a rich man... What would you do?
  • Assuming Elon musk level money with a diversified portfolio that doesn't bias me to a small set of companies or industries. I'd make a man made archipelago on international waters and start my own country. We'd be formed foundation style with a purely meritocratic government and society contributing 100% to the betterment of mankind and our future prosperity. I'd like to envision something like a modern library of alexandria were all are welcome. Alternatively I could just try to make the uk or America less moronic but sadly the state of things just depresses me. We need a hard reset IMO.

  • Spotify Disables Modified Apps, Users Unable To Access App
  • I pirate basically everything, but streaming music isn't a sham. You pay for the catalogue and the recommendation feed. Getting anything close to an actual streaming platforms variety and convenience through piracy is hard and frankly not worth the effort.

  • Starmer rules out another general election after petition reaches two million signatures
  • It is genuinely disturbing how much far right BS is being pushed onto people on social media. Happily not as much here but my tiktok is covered with the farmers protest and how the government is failing us when they've been in charge for less than a year and the last party has literally brought the UK to thw breaking point. Absolutely ridiculous.

  • Democrats decry ‘sham for justice’ after prosecutors drop Trump charges
  • Sounds to me like a perfect recipe to round up and arrest a bunch of traitors to American principles. Was the thought trump would just shut up and quietly go away if we kept biding time or he lost another election. What, if anything, about trumps character would make anyone think that. 100% the government just dropped the ball on this. They won with trump in the opposition and wanted to time it well enough to win again and have him divide and weaken the republicans.

  • Jeez, Microsoft read the room already
  • Probably the same guy that thought let's replace control panel with settings and then ended up just opening control panel from settings because it's too hard to move functionality from one to the other.

  • Sony Reportedly Scrapped 'Beyond the Spider-Verse' and Rewrote the Entire Sequel
  • Sony scrapped what they completed for Beyond the Spider-Verse shortly after the release of Across the Spider-Verse.

That's a pretty easy theory to put out when it was originally supposed to come out 7 months ago. I think they just vastly underestimated how long it'd take to finish. Scrapping the whole script so far would be an absurd overstep.

  • "How much does it cost?": Musk jokes about buying MSNBC from Comcast
  • That's true, but casually joking about buying companies when you basically did that (albeit with enough details to not be taken as a joke) is so monumentally dumb. Even for musk. Dude really has not learned to shutup yet.

  • People that work at restaurants, what was your worst experience with a customer?
  • Why are you liable to catch people who dine and dash? If the owners want to prevent this they need a dedicated guard and even if it does happen I don't see how you'd be liable. 100% I understand why no one stayed at this place over a month. Good on you for not letting them take advantage of you like that.

  • Elon Musk found the one way he could be President of the United States without actually being the President of the Unites States
  • Elon from like 2013 when he was on big bang theory could probably have won. Hell Elon before twitter and the amber heard johnny Depp mess could probably have won. This guy legit was though of as irl Tony Stark until his inexorable demand for attention showed how shallow, weak, privileged and all round disappointing a human being he was.

  • Kamala Harris won politicaly engaged voters, but lost voters who don't follow politics.
  • I mean... bernies doing it. Dude is like 80 and is absolutely idolised by the younger generation and regular middle and lower class people because he seems to actually practice what he preaches and is genuinely interested in what's good for people. Most politicians to me just give the impression of seeking politics to enrich themselves and clasping onto power to avoid losing that even when their senile and completely incapable of fulfilling their role.

  • [docker compose help] Is it possible to map ports when using `network_mode`?
  • I funnily had the same use case. Two different jellyfin servers for complete separation. Both routing through gluetun. The reason this doesn't work is because the network mode setting you have basically makes all three containers operate in the same network. Meaning if one binds a port the others can no longer bind the same port. Their different hosts but all sharing one network and port range. To expose the ports you can move that ports setting from C1/C2 to the gluetun service definition. This'll still work because when C1 binds to 1234 it'll be reachable through the gluetun service.

Note: as mentioned if C1 and C2 cannot use the same port if you also want to have service gluetun set. More likely than not you start C1, it binds to the port, start C2, it tries and fails to bind to the port and crashes. I fixed this by making one of my jellyfin containers use a separate port. If you can't configure the ports of your services then there's no real recourse FWIU.

  • Man. It's so annoying how billionaires are seen as some sorta milestone instead of a painful reminder of weak government letting individuals rampantly accrue more wealth than anyone should have. And no one cares to address the issues at any scale because the rich literally control the world :/.

  • Movie Discussion - Alien Romulus

Hi folks, first time poster so let me know if this kinda post belongs anywhere else. Just saw alien romulus and wanted to see others thoughts on the movie :-).

Personally the visuals were great and the xenomorph itself terrifying but I didn't care much for the story and the characters seemed a little 2dimensional. I also think it drifted a little away from the fear factor to shock. I'd say 6/10. Enjoyable watch but nothing special.

How much do you pay for home contents insurance

    Hi folks,

I've been living in London for about 3 years now but didn't own much so never bothered to get contents insurance. As I'm steadily acrruing things I thought it'd be worth getting some sort of cover. I looked around on some price comparison sites and also reviews here and there. I'm getting anywhere from £60 to £500, although LV offering £250 is quite appealing and I've heard lots of good reviews. How much are you folks paying for contents insurance? What has your experience been with your providers and making claims? Any insight would be nice.
