Once you're logged in to a profile, and as long as you do not end the session, you can just use biometrics to log back in when switching. Otherwise, yes, you need to enter the pin again.
I don't use cross-profiles notifications mainly because all the profiles that are not the main one just run stuff that I don't need to be notifies about.
Having a profile for pretty much each need is the best feature after storage and contacts scopes:
I've been on GrapheneOS for almost 4 years now, absolutely no regrets, even on my mental health.
I've been on GrapheneOS for 4 years or so. I've tried CalyxOS every now and then, but always end up coming back to GrapheneOS. I find it simple, private, secure and free of BS. CalyxOS does come with some stuff preinstalled, which doesn't really appeal to me, and I trust the sandboxes Google Play model much more that MicroG.
About the devs, I really haven't had any issues that I have not been able to resolve myself, so my interaction with the is non-existing. I have read some posts with interactions with them, and they do seem to be hostile towards anything that is not 100% aligned with their train of thought, which I find stupid, to say the least. But regardless of how rude they may be, I feel GOS literally has no competition in the Android landscape in terms of privacy and security.
I wish I could be more help, but its always worked for me since I started using GrapheneOS about 4 years ago.
The one thing I can think of is a misconfiguration on SUPL and PSDS.
If you still have access to a GrapheneOS device maybe you could take a look there.
ElGato is famous for just not working on Linux.
I converted our whole congregation to Linux, and we use a BlackMagic ATEM for streaming over OBS:
https://www.amazon.com/Blackmagic-Design-Switcher-High-Speed-10-Pack/dp/B087D7FLBG/
At first we started with a cheap single input capture card and it worked great:
How is that any different than what all those shady companies do?
I took advantage of the lifetime protonpass offer for black Friday, since I already had 5 simplelogin emails for that purpose. Very happy now with the unlimited aliases.
What about it?
That's weird. Everything that needs GPS location works great for me. I agree that it does take a bit longer to lock, but it's only about 1 or 2 seconds longer.
My OsmAnd~ works amazing.
For apps that won't notify without GS I just use ntfy. Works great. But I still keep most notifications off, does wonders for my mental health.
Absolutely agreed. Been there since the Pixel 6, no regrets.
Or like Fedora (and I'm sure more distros) nicely asks you if you want to update in a user initiated restart or shutdown, and if you say yes it does just that and updates to restart or shut down. My memories with Windows are having to remain in front of the computer to make sure I can turn it off after it reboots multiple times to update.
You're so nice. Here they have deserved a C- for at least the last 5 years, and declined to a D during the last 2.
You must be the one person I've ever seen saying that. I remember up to windows 7 and some time with 10 that updates would just wait for you (assuming you configured it to wait) and I would update when ready to shit down. But I've seen 10/11 just kick people out over an update way too many times to know it's. I configured my wife's computer to not update at all unless I actively told it to, and it she woke up to windows 11 one day (which I appreciate because that was the trigger for her to love to Fedora, lol).
IKEA has a nice offer on new Fedora and Debian spins 🤣🤣
Wtf is wrong with you?
I use Tubular, and this fork crashes hard when I import my DB (regardless of if I import the settings as well or not). Guess I'll stay on Tubular since it just works (for now).
Yeah, KDE's customization is overwhelming in my opinion. I like my OS like I like my boss: "support me, get out of my way, and let me do my work". Gnome does exactly that.
I buy it on a need-to-get basis. Basically I use whatever exchange payment service the provider supplies me with, use a one-time use card to pay for the exchange, and done. I don't have a wallet.
Mainstream social media is incredibly invasive
There are a number of reasons why HR might reprimand you for something… but this seems a bit far-fetched. Here, we have an employee who, like any other twenty-something employee in the 2020s, has a personal social media account where they post photos with friends and the occasional relatable memes. ...
Because of crap like this is why I haven't been on any mainstream social media for 7+ years. And where do companies get off going over employees' personal crap anyway? For the record, I believe EVERYONE hates Mondays.
That feeling of no giving a damn about Windows
This is just a post about satisfaction. After years of using Linux exclusively, I was going over my Feeder just now, and just figured that I automatically dismiss anything containing the words "Microsoft" or "Windows" in it.
This made me realize how much better we Linux users actually have it.
Anyway, that's all this is about.
Migrating Joplin to JTX
I want to use Radicale and do away with Joplin altogether. I finally understand JTX + Davx5 enough to be able to change my workflow to that. Now, I have around 400+ notes in Joplin. Is there any way to migrate from Markdown to ICS? So far I've only seen the option of an MD table to ICS, but I don't even know how to turn all those .md files into one markdown table.
Has any of you tried something similar before?
JMP.chat referral link
I didn't know where else to go, so if this is not the place, please let me know and I'll delete this.
I'm ready to port over to JMP.chat, and was wondering if anyone could share a referral link/code for me to avoid the 15 dollars activation of the number. I would really appreciate it.
Suggestions for privacy and security blog
I'm entertaining the idea of starting a digital privacy and security blog. As a matter of fact, I am self hosting it right now, but mainly for friends, family and acquaintances. It's super basic, more rants than articles honestly, 🤣
Since the only 2 social networks I have are Lemmy and Mastodon, I've been avoiding allowing sharing to Facebook, Twitter and other mainstream SNs.
My wife thinks I should just host it on a cloud and share it everywhere with the argument of, and I quote, "the platforms you use are already full of people as paranoid as you. If you really want to bring your knowledge and experience to others, you should allow us to share to the platforms full of people oblivious to the dangers you constantly slam us with" (which is absolutely true. I'm a thorn on their side, lol.
What do you guys think? Should I add features to share to those places? Would you if it was you? Under no circumstances will I post on any of them, and if I allow to share from my blog, my inner circle would be the one doing the sharing.
I do want to help spread our gospel, but I think that most people in those platforms are just to far gone to even care. I don't even know what to think anymore. I've only written 2 articles so far anyway, so it's not like I'd be the New York Times of privacy or anything.
Fuck Hilton: Black Hat USA 2024, DEF CON 32 attendees treated like children – or criminals – with invasive hotel room checks
This is absolutely ridiculous. Imagine some fuckers just coming into your room while you're with your SO making love or something.
Suddenly today I cannot start the flatpak anymore. After start a popup appears with the text: "Profile not found" - "Your profile "MullvadBrowser" cannot be loaded. It may not exist or may not be a...
If you are having issues with Mullvad in Linux (Flatpak) and getting a message along the lines of ""Your profile 'MullvadBrowser' could not be loaded"", it's a known bug and the only workaround right now is to use the test version:
flatpak install --user https://dl.flathub.org/build-repo/112221/net.mullvad.MullvadBrowser.flatpakref

Sony wants to get all of our kids' accounts, LOL
I just got this email from Sony. My kids use their profiles offline (meaning they don't even have a playstation account) on their PS4, and use my games. And now they want to allow kids to link their other accounts (my kids only have a SimpleX user to chat with their family, LOL).
The sad thing is that a lot of parents will go: "Nice, they can now have it all in one place!"
Love how they say this at the end:
Stay tuned for more details. In the meantime, we recommend talking to your child about account linking so that they can safely enjoy these new features while playing on PlayStation.
They fucking call these FEATURES!

Looking for a VOIP service to replace Google Fi
This may end up being a bit convoluted, so I will do my best to keep it as short as possible and to the point.
I have a US number with Google Fi, have had it for about 8 years.
This is the only reason why I still maintain that one Google account. The benefit is that I only use it when I am in the United States, and when I'm not, I just pause the service and don't get charged.
However, I feel the string need to completely eliminate Google from my life permanently.
Does anyone know of a service similar to this one? It can be an MVNO or VOIP for my phone, and I would like to port my number as well. I found "phoner", but I can't pause the service, so I would be stuck paying a bill I don't use as much or loosing my number.
If the service is private (not to be confused with anonymous, of course) even better.
Move UnRaid from metal to Proxmox
I have a trusty UnRaid server that has been running great for almost 3 years now, with some kinks and headaches here and there, but mostly very stable. Now I'm entertaining the idea of setting that box up with ProxMox, and running UnRaid virtualized. The reason being that I want to use UnRaid exclusively as a NAS and then run all dockers and VMs on ProxMox (at least that's how I'm picturing it). I would like to know your opinion on this idea. All I have is Nextcloud, Immich, Vaultwarden, Jellyfin, Calibre, Kavita and a Windows VM I use to update some hardware every now and then. I mainly want to do that for the backup capabilities in ProxMox for each instance. Storage is not a concern, and I have 64GB of ECC Ram running in that box. What are the Pros and Cons, or is it even worth it to move all this to ProxMox?
System76 DKMS Drivers for Silverblue
I need some help figuring out how to install all the DKMS drivers, and firmware manager, firmware daemon, etc on Silverblue.
It's easy on Fedora but I haven't found a single instance explaining how to do it in a Fedora atomic distro.
These are the instructions for Fedora.

Voyager constantly crashing
So, apparently for no reason, my Voyager app started crashing this morning whenever I touched any of the replies to my comments.
I tried with and without VPN, custom DNS, automatic DNS, Rethink enabled and disabled, and it just keeps crashing.
Yes, I cleared data, un-installed and reinstalled, and it is still happening.
Anyone else having this issue? I thought I'd ask here first before opening a bug report on Github.
Edit: Forgot to mention I'm on version 2.8.0 from Github.
Edit 2: Available version from F-Droid, 2.6.0, does not preset this issue.
Dual monitor suspend, one monitor does not turn on when waking up.
Finally got my wife away from Windows and on Fedora 40 (Gnome 46).
Now, when her PC goes to suspend and when she wakes it up, one of her 2 monitors doesn't wake up.
Both are connected to HDMI ports (no dedicated video card, just the integrated card in her Ryzen 9).
Any ideas on what could be happening? I wouldn't want her to go back to Winblows over something so insignificant, but she would.
Great FOSS Trailing service

> I made wanderer - a self-hosted trail and GPS track database > > Over the last two months, I developed wanderer. It is a self-hosted alternative to sites like alltrails.com or in other words a self-hosted trail database. It started out more as a small hobby project to teach myself some new technologies but in the end, I decided to develop it into a fully-fledged application. > > Core Features: > > - Manage your trails > - Extensive map integration and visualization > - Share trails with other people and explore theirs > - Advanced filter and search functionality > - Create custom lists to organize your trails further > - Chique design with a dark and light theme > - Fully mobile compatible > > wanderer is completely open-source. You can find the GitHub repo here: > https://github.com/Flomp/wanderer > > wanderer is still under active development so if you encounter any bugs/errors or have suggestions please let me know here or open an issue on GitHub.
In case you want something to send to your humans that say "I have nothing to hide" when you mention privacy.

Not 100% in agreement with some of her videos, but I believe this one is spot on, and probably easier to understand by regular folk.
Why you should #degoogle!
I set up a Raspberry Pi 3 with AdguardHome for a friend of mine, and told him to disconnect everything at home and try to watch anything on his phone, being the only device using his home's internet.
He just sent me this, and now he's ready to #degoogle 🤣🤣🤣
He says there were hundreds in less than 5 minutes.
Android Keyboard with keypad?
I've looked under my bed, in our pantry, and even went under the deck, nothing. Please help me find a FOSS android keyboard in which I can have the numbers to the right of the keyboard, like a computer keyboard keypad, even better if it has gifs.. The only android keyboard I know about that has that option is Swiftkey. Being a Microsoft app, you can understand why I'm not willing to use it anymore. AnySoftKeyboard and Florisboard don't have the option,at least I could not find it.
