Aww, your so spethal.
Clearly some people do need treatment to not go and do evil things with their desires. If you can save a person from their own desires, by treating them, isn't that better than executing them?
But for those who don't - and I hope... wish that was most people - that desire can still eat away at you and make life unhappy, especially if you don't have any legitimate way to fulfil your longing for romantic relationship. Treatment, including good, old, counselling (when done right) can help.
And consider a middle ground. The incel who always complains at women because he can't get a girlfriend. The married woman who flirts with other husbands. The rich businessman who makes his attractive secretaries uncomfortable but never quite abuses them. The paedophile who can't hang out with their friends who have children without feeling urges and making inappropriate remarks. Are these egregious enough to cut those people off from society? But if you can help them; if they're willing to be helped; their quality of life and those around them can be improved.
That's very interesting. Thank you for sharing.
I hope things work out well for your son.
FWIW, there's a lot we don't know - but are learning - about bacteria and the gut. For example, if I'm not mistaken, a baby gets a lot of important gut bacteria from it's mum through breastfeeding.
So when I hear all this argument about raw vs pasteurised milk, I expect there really is something of health benefit to raw milk, just there's a big downside of harmful pathogens that can be cured with pasteurization. That doesn't mean all raw milk is unsafe. Like with raw eggs in the UK, or not iodizing your vegetables, it can be safer with care over production.
Anyway, that is to say, I figure there could be some interaction with the bacteria in the raw milk helping your son to digest it.
But having seen the other comment suggesting homogenisation, that sounds more likely to me. (Just a guess though.)
Encrypted system partition on one side; shrunk-as-much-as-it-can windows C drive on the other. No space to resize into. I'm waiting till I have time to reinstall.
My problem is I have a /boot partition big enough for the old days, and now every time Linux Mint updates the kernel it's hit and miss whether it has space to install the new one without removing the old first!

Or, to put it another way, (unprofessional academic linguist here), a word has meanings by what you mean by it, and what the listener understands it to mean.
In a sense, it can mean anything you want it to. In another sense, it can mean anything the listener/reader interprets it as. Most useful though is when you mean the same meaning that the listener understands.
And for "accepted/official meaning", that's just a community all agreeing on a meaning. Optionally with a recognised group (e.g. dictionary writer) affirming certain meanings as accepted in the community.

New theory dropped: elfs are Chinese!
Or elves, though that doesn't explain how they came from the West. Maybe from an America centric view? Or the Chinese are the Avari, that could be it. In which case, dwarves in their mountains might be Tibetans? Kazakhs? "The bridge of Kazakh-Dûm" sounds about right, somewhere around the Hall of Kazakh-Stan. I think I'm on to something! Now then, since we know Ngauruhoe is Orodruin, that would make New Zealand to be Mordor, and I guess Gondor must be Australia.
Now, the Avari are the 'dark' elves, who haven't seen the light of the two trees. Is that why they make toys for Santa, to be hung on Christmas trees, to remember that connection they never had? Yes! It fits!

As to people who have paedophilic desire - rather than those who actually rape children - there wasa very interesting thread I read a while back, on Reddit I think, of "I'm a paedophile, AMA". Very interesting to see the experience of a couple of people who have that attraction but choose not to molest children by acting on it.
Child sexual abuse is a very serious evil, but regarding attraction to children, I think treatment's a very appropriate route.

Sounds like most of political/ideological Lemmy to me.
I noticed via the link from another comment that "work" and "schools" can turn it off - though not exactly easily.
Are we heading for a situation like smart TVs, where individuals are wrapped in the net of data collection but companies can pay extra to not be spied on - so they don't kick up enough of a fuss or stop using the vendor.
It's referring to the man in the image. Isn't that obvious?

Ambridges Farm
A long time ago, (on a server far, far away), I uploaded the Spring screenshot of my completed farm. It took me a long time to get round to the Summer, Autumn and Winter screenshots, even delaying updating to 1.6 to not change anything!
I'm very pleased with Ambridges farm. It's my first and only completed playthrough, and the final farm layout started life as a show of fish ponds, and developed to include just about everything that can be on the farm.
I'll put a few more notes in the comments.
Well, with the new .ee community, now seems a good time to get up an post my farm, all four seasons! I hope you like it :-)
(Edit: I just saw that files on Catbox can't be reached from a bunch of countries. Not sure if the Lemm.ee proxying gets around that? If someone could let me know, then I can try and find somewhere else to upload the images. Any suggestions for a good image host?)
What do people here think of Nebula?
I've been playing around with self hosting for file sharing, backups, and a handful of other ideas I might one day get round to. I like the idea of a mesh VPN and being able to, for example, connect a travelling laptop to a 'host' laptop nearby, though my only public ip is a VPS in another country.
Of all the options I found, I liked the look of Nebula most. Fiddly in some places, but it's working nicely for me, and I appreciate some of the simplicity of design.
I'm wondering if people here have much experience of it, though? My biggest concern is over its future. With,
- The Defined Networking site focusing on making money off it, and
- The Android app doesn't allow full configuration (including the firewall, so I can't host a website from a phone) but - I heard - does if you use Defined Networking's paid service for configuration,
makes me worry they might be essentially trying to deprecate viable FOSS Nebula in favour of a paid or controlled service.
Any thoughts? Insight?
Plasma update breaks updates
So, I updated Tumbleweed, and the updates to KDE caused my Plasma/Wayland session to restart, breaking the updates part way through. I wasn't watching at the time so took some while to debug!
Spent some time learning how to use nm-cli, because new half-upgraded KDE wouldn't load the network widget. It looks like something else may have changed and mucked up in the half-update (and of course I rebooted like a wise-man/dummy/i-dont-know-but-at-least-it-didnt-make-it-work) but iterations of trying things in nmcli eventually worked!
Finally tried zypper dup again and saw the session restart, so finished the job from the virtual terminal! At last, I seem to have a working computer again, and I might just brave updating my main laptop. (I cancelled the update while it was still downloading packages, after seeing the breakage on the other laptop!)
Frozen Pseudoscience
I finally watched Frozen 2 on the plane a few days ago. Did somebody pay Disney to shill for homeopathy?
Ambridges Farm, or, There's More to Life Than Fishing
Hi I've been gradually finishing my first and only-main farm, and wanted to share :-) It started as the central plaza and fish ponds (since I came to love fishing!) and grew from there. I was going to get all-seasons screenshots and post together, but that's going soo slowly; and, hey, content!
Hope you like it! I think there's a little bit of just about everything there, and if you look closely you can see me sitting on a bench enjoying the flower garden. It's been single player until right at the end I added the 'guest lodges' to share with family and friends. I love how well they fit in places I hadn't planned!
