Not a banana republic. And we simply don't ban books. Like, some might be banned implicitly because of illegal content, for example a child porn book wouldn't really fly here, but that's because of the content, book itself wouldn't be banned, you would just go to prison for sharing child pornography. I assume I could find other illegal content that would result in an implicit ban.
But there's no government body that even can create a list of books that should be banned. Hopefully it stays that way.
Heh, they didn't really stand a chance, I block them on network level, device level and I also used some software to block all the annoying shit on Windows itself (OO Shut Up or something like that). But the huge empty spaces where something was very obviously missing told me pretty exactly where I would see the ads.
I regularly fix Windows bullshit of my team members without actively using it myself. Windows doesn't really change that much, I just make sure to check it out for a few days when some huge changes arrive, other than that I don't care.
Yay, none in my country!
Punching nazis in the fucking face
There's no way this can backfire, right?
Have you considered therapy? Anyway, dying out of spite is not as cool as it might sound. Way too permanent for a one-time punishment.
Yeah, like the constant driver issues. I had to reinstall the OS and it wouldn't even recognize my hard drive, just told me there's no drive.
Or when it refused to use my dedicated Nvidia GPU and only used the integrated one.
Or when my sound stopped working all of a sudden.
Oh, right, those were all Windows!
You won't. Just install Windows in a VM once every few years and you're good to go.
I mean, that's what you get for naming the newest game in the series as if it was the oldest one.
I always took it that Morgoth spent too much of himself to create bullshit and that's why an elf could topple a Vala, otherwise it doesn't really make sense.
I fucking love the Korn dubstep album! Though that might be because I like both metal and dubstep, it was kinda dream match for me.
Nah, that movie sucked.
Our government a few years ago made a cool new system to sniff on small businesses because they don't have enough money to defend themselves properly in court track cash transactions and it was so hip and new that it used SOAP. That was the first* time I worked with SOAP, until then I managed to avoid it.
* I technically worked with SOAP once before but the part I worked on was like ten abstractions away from the protocol.
No idea, I found it on my phone.
Eh, I'm talking about real computers, not devices that cosplay as one.
Like under the bus.
infinitely better battery life
All my laptops have a battery as shitty as ten years ago.
TIL Reagan got shot. I'm not American, so I don't really care about US presidents that don't concern me directly (meaning the ones in power during my adulthood), but it's not like everyone knows that.
With Core ONE, Prusa's Open Source Hardware Dream Quietly Dies | Hackaday
Yesterday, Prusa Research officially unveiled their next printer, the Core ONE. Going over the features and capabilities of this new machine, it’s clear that Prusa has kept a close eye on the…
Sad to see them go this way, but not unexpected, thanks to the article by Josef Prusa where he complains about open source.
Plants Really Do 'Scream'. We've Simply Never Heard Them Until Now
It seems like Roald Dahl may have been onto something after all: if you hurt a plant, it screams.
Defederation from piefed.social
Just to be clear, they defederated from us, not the other way.
Hopefully it's only temporary, but just a FYI if you are subscribed to any communities there.
As for the reason, recently there have been many spam accounts being created on lemmings.world, which I'm banning daily, and piefed.social decided they'll be defederating as a response.
I'll update this post if something changes.
Ever wanted a robot vacuum and a 3D printer hybrid?
MobiPrint is a mash-up of a 3D printer and a robot vacuum that autonomously maps rooms and fabricates objects right where they are needed.
The new episodes have arrived!
I personally didn't know I'd be getting 3 episodes at once, so that was a really great surprise!
How'd you like the new episodes?
RSS feed of your saved posts
I wrote an app that makes it possible to have your Lemmy saved posts in a RSS feed. For example, if you're like me and save posts because you want to come to them later when you have the time.
How to do it?
Few simple steps:
- you must be logged in to lemmings.world instance
- you visit https://lemmings.world/rss/init
- the response will contain a JSON string which contains, among others, the unique URL of your RSS feed (looks like
https://lemmings.world/rss/4e64935e0613f6e2e03cd420f71df14476e769b11704652921c1a7b2150f0888
)- the URL can be accessed publicly, but the URL is completely random and cannot be guessed
- that means no one will find out by accident, but if you post the link publicly anywhere, everyone has access
- if the URL ever gets compromised and you'd like to remove it, send me a PM
- by default you only get posts, but you can modify it by adding optional parameter
include
- it's a comma separated list that can contain
posts
andcomments
?include=posts
- only posts (same as omitting the include parameter)?include=comments
- only comments?include=posts,comments
- include both comments and posts
- it's a comma separated list that can contain
- afterwards just put the URL in your favourite RSS client
- if you ever forget the URL, just visit https://lemmings.world/rss/init (while logged in), you can copy the URL again
If you're from another instance, you can either join lemmings.world or ask your admins to include the RSS app on their instance as well, it's open source and can be found at https://github.com/RikudouSage/LemmyPersonalRss
Which fictional character comes to your mind first when someone says strong, independent woman?
Can be from any kind of media.
For me it's Margot from The Magicians (which is interesting because in the books she is anything but) and Jesse Faden from Control.
442 years ago today, the day did not exist
Due to the introduction of the Gregorian calendar and to fix mistakes from the previous calendar system, October 5, 1582 did not exist. The calendar went from October 4 straight to October 15.
Federation issues with lemmy.world
Edit: Problem has been fixed and we're slowly catching up, in a few hours everything should be as usual.
We are having some technical issues with content federation, meaning most of the content from lemmy.world is not displayed on our instance.
I'm working on solving the issue, though it appears to be a tough one. For the time being, the experience for users of lemmy.world will be degraded.

Pixel art - fixed eyes
Recently I posted this image and many people were wondering what was wrong with the eyes, turned out I forgot to disable a face fixer model that tries to make faces more realistic. Well, now I generated the exact same image again, but without the face fixer model
