Holyhandgrenade @lemmy.world After the recent election, north America can stay away from Europe for a while

16 2 ReplyHolyhandgrenade @lemmy.world Europe definitely has problems, but Trump can do so much more damage than any of the maniacs over here

Infomatics90 @lemmy.ca as much as I'd love a land bridge to come visit my family in Italy from here in Canada. I agree.

IninewCrow @lemmy.ca The basis for WWIII .... the world wanting to relocate all of Chile to use as a bridge across the Atlantic.

CaptnNMorgan @lemmy.world I don't think so, Chile is 2,653 miles long, north to south. I can't get an exact distance from the Canadian coast to the Spanish coast, but the distances that are available from Spain to closer to the center of Canada suggest it would at the very least, be really close

tiredofsametab @fedia.io That would do very bad things to the ocean circulations which could cause a climate catastrophe. Also it's heavy and they don't wanna.
17 0 ReplyJustTesting @lemmy.hogru.ch That part of the ocean circulation is on track to stop in the next 50 years anyways, so might as well get a chile bridge out of it?
9 0 ReplyJourei @lemm.ee Eh, build a culvert!
3 0 ReplyRicky Rigatoni @lemm.ee But will post10 be able to unclog a culvert that large?

finitebanjo @lemmy.world It's kind of like a weed. The part you see poking up above the surface of the water is connected to a larger continental plate beneath it. You'd need to dig it up but it's in too deep so you can't.
Also, travel by water is actually easier. Less hooligans on the ocean roads.
15 0 Replythe_crotch @sh.itjust.works Chile isn't a weed it's a pepper

Captain Aggravated @sh.itjust.works Is the middle of Chile deep enough for the mid-ocean ridge? Or would it snap in half?
Also, I'm not sure Chile would fit through the panama canal, I think as a nation it's post-panamax.
9 0 ReplyWhatYouNeed @lemmy.world Rather than try the canal, which is alway rammed at this time of day, it could do a 3 point turn, passing through the roaring 40's and up through the South Alantic?
4 0 ReplyCaptain Aggravated @sh.itjust.works Would it hit New Zealand trying to make the turn? It would certainly take out Easter Island.

GladiusB @lemmy.world Just wait for climate change to get real interesting. It could happen.
7 0 ReplySassington @feddit.uk I knew climate change was going to be devastating but I wasn't expecting a south American land mass to up and plant itself between North America and Europe....
Moving that country that far north would make the weather just a wee bit...Chile.
