Have you ever been experienced a natural disaster? If so, which one?
  • Hurricane Sandy in Connecticut. My house caught on fire…twice…when a tree fell on some wires and caused power to backfeed into my home. Luckily I didn’t touch anything or I might not be here to tell the tale. It was supposedly put out once (fire was inside the walls), and I was allowed back to fetch a few essentials, but it filled up with smoke again because of a hot spot or something…and I had to convince dispatch to send a truck out a second time. I was displaced for three months and lost about 85% of my belongings. Luckily some VERY brave firefighters prevented my entire house from burning to the ground. 0/10 - do not recommend

I’ve also been in earthquakes, blizzards, and wildfires, but nothing comparable to that experience on a personal level.

  • Break their rules
  • I live in Denver, so Red Rocks is practically in my back yard, and this book is sitting on the couch next to me. I went to college with Matt & Trey…seriously, I had tears of joy watching that.

ETA: I highly recommend this book if you like looking at pretty pictures of electric basses, but be warned…bass buying addiction may ensue…

  • What is the scariest thing there? Me: "People who wear shorts in winter..." 😂
  • We’ve also got DTC for a tech-heavy defense and a lot of aerospace and military (Colorado Springs)…I’m liking the Final Boss idea.

I don’t disagree with the off-road vehicle comment, it’s the on-road vehicles that seem to be the problem here.

  • Why You Should Stop Saying ‘Good Luck’ Starting Today, Backed by Behavioral Science
  • And that largely works when you know the receiver has been brought up with the same social context and background for the expression, but relying on that can leave the door cracked for misinterpretation. Probably not a huge risk, but over time nuances can make a difference.

  • To your point adding “I hope…” makes a huge difference! I’m sure some would say that’s implied in “Have a great race,” but human brains aren’t always the best at picking up inferences, especially when stress is in the mix, so why not take a half second longer to make sure the underlying meaning is clear? (As you do!)

Linguistic psychology is some interesting stuff. Once you delve into it outside of English, that rabbit hole seems never ending…heck, even just sticking with English!

I’m having fun tweaking things now, but I think I’ve got the basics mostly figured out. I’m in Denver, so the altitude and dryness play a role.

What puts beavers in the mood?

This one weird trick can help you exploit a beaver's natural instincts.

The Sound of Running Water Puts Beavers in the Mood to Build

There’s a really cool set of experiments that have been done around this. It seems it’s the sound that compels them to build.
