  • Can you finish? Do you have sexual urges still?

  • The message to Democrats is clear: you must dump neoliberal economics
  • They're referring to the roots of the Democratic party, as the more conservative and slave supporting party. The Democratic party is old, and until relatively recently was the further right party in the US. Which also helps explain why the Republicans are red, traditionally a left color, and Dems are blue, traditionally a right color. While it's not really relevant to modern politics, and bringing it up like they just did is more of a historical bit of trivia, it's not really mental gymnastics, it's more of an "akshually" moment. The Democratic party does not have progressive roots, its roots are deeply, deeply conservative and right wing, and should be acknowledged.

And I understand what you mean..if there were a female AU/clone of me, I don't think I'd be interested at all. Then again, just to try it, maybe? In an environmental I was sure would be judgement free. Hmm... Idk now that I think of it.

  • I was there, I remember
  • I was homeschooled, but my foster brothers elementary school gym teacher was a powerfully lesbian lesbian woman with a flat top haircut and a penchant for flannel in the middle of the summer in coastal Virginia. She lived a few doors down from us, and would come by occasionally for cookouts and stuff. I loved her so much, she was amazing. She was also one of the first people to clock me as gay. I didn't even know I was gay, but I still distinctly remember her giving me a hug one day when this boy I wanted to be friends with told me he didn't want to be friends with me. Looking back, it was so obviously a crush, but I didn't realize it then. She was outside when she overheard the two of us, we'd been riding bikes. She hugged me, told me that not everyone can love everyone, and that it was okay. I'd find more and better friends, and when I got older, I'd be able to tell who the good ones were. It was like a pre gay pep talk, and she was so kind.

  • The discourse (or lack of) around Apple TV is weird
  • Yep! Same thing I've been saying. You can use the mobile browser, but that's a pain in the ass, trying to use the controls meant for laptops and desktops on a tiny screen, plus if you pause and to to something else for w minute it refreshes the page half the time. Very frustrating. I mean, I do, when there's something I want to watch (Ted lasso, mainly), but yeah, PITA, and I don't understand why they do it, when nearly half of all mobile users in the US are on Android. There's no way it's an oversight, it's either a legal thing or a slight, like when Amazon wouldn't allow YouTube apps

  • Thought-provoking
  • Mind if I ask what denomination? I found the Episcopal church and it genuinely helped me feel like a Christian again. As a gay man (who also posts porn sometimes!), and growing up Baptist, I never felt like I couldn't be a follower of Jesus, but I also never felt like I could be part of a community of followers of Jesus, and the Episcopal church helped me find that community again for the first time since childhood.

  • Penguin rule
  • They didn't. 3 piece suits are older than penguins, because penguins are a type of bird, and birds were invented by the US government as surveillance drones.

  • The discourse (or lack of) around Apple TV is weird
  • It does not. That's just for tv boxes, won't work on phones and tablets.

  • The discourse (or lack of) around Apple TV is weird
  • How dare you use an apple product! I know you just said you don't want to get into it, but I just can't help myself from making my choice on the duopoly a linchpin of my personality, and now I'm going to be irrationally angry at you for choosing the only other option, even though you probably didn't choose it, per se, but just went with what you needed to go with because of social factors or because of sales with your (again limited choice of) carriers!

Is there a "Lemmy sings" type community?

One of my favorite things on the other site was seeing the users doing a song together, but I'd completely forgotten about it until someone just replied to my Jefferson Airplane quote with the next line. Would be very cool to see a Lemmy sings community. Anyone know of one? I'm coming up snake eyes on my search.

If tomorrow it was announced that aliens were real, highly intelligent, and in communication with our governments, no one would be talking about it by Halloween

Seriously, I doubt it would even take that long. We get used to shit so quickly, and the news cycles have to keep feeding us new things, the only way we'd keep talking about the aliens if they kept doing new and interesting things. I'd be willing to bet a year later there would be some people who straight up forgot about it. "Oh yeah, aliens! Are they gonna, like, visit at some point or just keep exchanging calls with the Whitehouse?"

    Multiple users, restricted access

Hey, folks, I'm new to this side of things, and I'm hoping someone can help me out.

I just signed up 5tb of storage through Hetzner's storage share, using nextcloud. I like it so far, but I'm running into an issue. I figured out how to make multiple users, but I don't know how to (or if I can) restrict different users to specific folders. We're broke, so this is going to be shared between me, my mom, my brother, and my sister in law. If it's possible, I'd like to create a folder for each of us, and restrict access to that folder to just that person. I don't want to be able to see what's in my brother's folder, and I don't want my mom seeing what's in mine, et cetera. I've tried to google it and look it up on youtube, but most of what I can find isn't related, and if it is, it's a bunch of technospeak that I don't really understand about self-hosting, which I'm not doing. If it's possible, it would be cool to have a central shared folder as well, but we could just share links with each other when we want to share something if needed.

Any help is really appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    Suspend on lid close

Hey, folks, I'm hoping someone here can help me out.

I have a laptop that has been messed up for a while, and I just got it repaired. I was using as basically a desktop, external monitor, mouse, keyboard. I just got it repaired and would like to use it as a laptop again. My problem is that something like 2 years ago, I edited some setting so that I could close the lid of the laptop and it wouldn't suspend, but I can't remember how I did it, and now it won't suspend when I close it, which is less than convenient for use as a laptop.

I googled, but it's not in GNOME tweaks anymore, and I'm not sure how to do any of the stuff I see people posting about terminal commands. I can follow instructions for command line stuff, but I sort of need it spelled out for me from step 1.

Any help is really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

can't use eternity on new phone

Hey, folks, I just got a new phone, and reinstalled Eternity on it. But no matter which account I try to log in with, I'm getting an error ("cannot fetch user info") when I try to log in.

Any help is much appreciated. I'm not sure if eternity is on the play store, but I got it through f droid if that matters.
