Les conservateurs POUR les taxes??????? On vit dans un monde parallèle
In Canada from what I've seen it's most often than not +5-10% over the speed you're paying for. For example with a 400mbps plan you will get about 450 when plugged in
Every time I use python it makes me want to throw my computer through my window. Doesn't happen with other languages. Pip fucking sucks it seems like every time I want to install dependencies for a project there is one that throws a compilation error when installing it. Like, why does it not try to download the version of the package that works with my version of python?? It doesn't even tell me why it failed!!!
Hacker News is probably your best bet as long as you don't go too deep in the comments
There was always a need for a specific system dependency like for the file picker. There was no universal API that uses a system provided way to have a file picker. It had to be hacked together by adding dependencies to the app and everything that comes with this
Kinetic scrolling in chromium based applications
Hi all
I've been a touchpad user for a long time with Linux, I love the gestures and I think the 3-finger GNOME ones are even better than the ones on my MacOS work computer (which have a weird delay when switching workspaces, but thats besides the point). Thats to say, I use Firefox and GTK4 apps when I can because they implement kinetic scrolling in a very smooth and satisfying way.
Now comes the problems, applications using Chromium/Electron all have a very janky kinetic scroll implementation. They are all way too fast, and thats when the kinetic scroll is enabled manually in the settings. Does anyone know of a way to reduce that speed? Or even better, if someone has links to issues that I can track that aim to improve the kinetic scrolling implementation, and its default setting status (when its going to be enabled as default), I would appreciate it a lot!
BTW, if some of you are interested, I made this small website some time ago to track the status touchpads on Linux: https://arewescrollingyet.com/. If someone has issues for chromium I will gladly add it to the site
the good thing is that virtually everyone uses GNOME and KDE, so the small issues are mostly encountered by more advanced users with custom setups. The main point is that app developers can now develop apps that will work anywhere that implements the required features, and if it doesnt, then too bad, show an error message. Its the same kind of problem with, for example, webcams. The user may or may not have a webcam connected, in which case you display an error popup with a clear message that it does not work because the feature is not implemented. They could go into fallbacks but those are usually platform/desktop specific (which goes against the point of building using the standard stack)
Something interesting about this is that this is because of a legal loophole in texas that says that if the ATM gets taken away, it gives the business the right to shoot one and exactly one person at sight. This law was passed by trump in 2017 according to the guardian https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/jul/22/trump-new-law-atm-shoot-one-person and according to the new york times as well https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/22/politics/trump-atm-shooting-law.html
I love the flatpak Wayland portals and systemd desktop stack. It allows Linux to finally have some sort of standard that everyone agrees on. This is what has been holding Linux back for so many years, it's basically impossible to build a Linux app that will work for everyone because of this. Now we have a single dedicated system APIs that is available basically everywhere
I mean... Yeah they can always not give out the accounts, but they will still need to disable them if they don't want to infringe the Infowars trademark that would belong to The Onion
What the onion could do in such case that elon does not want to give the accounts as part of the deal is to send a letter threatening legal action if they do not take down the accounts for infringing on their InfoWars trademark
Kodeine
One day maybe they'll also find a KDE made of cocaine 🙏🙏
call me a conspiracy theorist however much you want. I still believe that he and his friends such as elon musk will purposefully crash the american economy to be able to purchase stocks at a lower price
Sorry if this sounds blunt but if you need 250$ while making >= 150 000$ then there must be a serious money leak in your budget. 250$ in a year should be really easy to recover if you absolutely need it. Cancelling a subscription like Netflix, downgrading your phone plan, lowering the heating in the winter by a degree will all very likely result in > 250$ in savings per year. That's 20$ per month.
I hate that this is becoming the norm these days. This is obviously a gift because of the upcoming elections. Anyone making 149 999 per year doesn't need an extra 250$. This is very clearly meant to be able to gift it to as many people as possible. I really hope the other candidates hammer on this electorialist measure during the debates. Plus considering the finances of the country this really doesn't make any sense. Like sure the country is under massive dept let's just send out money and cut revenue for 2 months
The app is good, however what makes the other platforms good is their algorithm and the content that is available. If those are missing (and they likely will for privacy reasons) there's little reason for me to use it instead of instagram reels or tiktok for example.
It's not about right wing or left wing populists. All populists lie because the only thing they want is to see their face on TV and to be in power.
We should have a better definition for the word hole
Like... In my opinion, a hole is when it does not go through, and when it does, it becomes a tunnel. A straw is a tunnel. A hole in a piece of paper is a tunnel. A bowl is a hole.
Cool!
Troubleshooting a desktop that does not go into sleep mode/suspend
Hello all, for a few weeks/months now, my computer has stopped going into suspend mode. Here is what happens when putting it to sleep (using GNOME's power menu) or using systemctl suspend:
- Display turns off, peripherals turn off (keyboard lights off etc), fans spin up before sleep as usual
- Fans go back to idle speed, computer stays on
- Have to press the keyboard, wake the display up and go in the power menu again to suspend it (from the lock screen), and it works every time like this.
I have no idea what could be preventing suspend and what I could find online did not really help a lot. I don't think it is a USB device because I tried unplugging most of them except my mouse or my keyboard and it still did not work, and the second time on the lock screen it always suspends like intended

Why is head hair different from other hairy parts?
Why is my hair smooth and soft compared to the other hairs?
I suddenly have a massive cursor with some GNOME apps. Does anybody else have this?

UPDATE IN COMMENTS!!
>Hey there, I don't know if any of you noticed something similar recently, but I have noticed my cursors have gone HUGE, like 2x what it should be at least. I think this is related to the affected apps using a beta version of Libadwaita 1.6, but I just wanted to confirm here before I create an issue in the repo. I use 200% scaling, GNOME 45, Fedora 39. Does anybody else have this problem? Huge cursor with 200% Scaling (Libadwaita 1.6?)

Rockstar has revealed the GTA 6 trailer earlier than expected, probably because it was leaked on Twitter. I think it looks amazing!!
I can't wait to see what the community does with the images and what we will know almost for sure before the release
