I can relate to this too. If I have nothing planned for the day, then I’ll keep sleeping past my alarm. But when I have something I need to wake up for, I am good about getting up. Maybe plan an important task for after your nap to help motivate yourself to wake up. Remind yourself how important it is while you’re falling asleep so it’s close to the last thing on your mind before it falls asleep. Also, multiple alarms five minutes apart so you don’t fall right back into rem so easily.
Another thing you may consider is to shorten your nap time from 20 minutes to 10 or 15 minutes. Everybody’s sleep is different, and you may be hitting rem by 20 minutes. You want to wake up before you get that far, so you may need to experiment with different times.
Everything they said, with the addition that falling asleep fast is a skill that takes practice to get good at. Even if you don’t fall asleep, laying down for 15 minutes can still be good for you. It allows your body to relax.
As for your mind, I’ve found that letting it wander and not trying to control it helps me get to sleep faster. Even if I’m thinking about things that stress me, if I let my mind go on its own, eventually it’ll go off the path and start thinking dreamy things. Next thing I know, I’m waking up.
No matter what works for others, it still takes practice.
I am borderline narcoleptic, so I am always tired. To help with that, I typically take naps on slow days — regardless of whether it’s a workday or a weekend. It’s good for you.
First Thanksgiving in my new home
Last year I moved into a townhome after my wife and I separated. Her and my kids went to Ohio to spend Thanksgiving with her side of the family (it’s something we’d always done even as a family). I was supposed to go to Puerto Rico last Thanksgiving, but that didn’t work out. So I ended up at a friend’s house with their family.
Fast forward to this year, and I now have my own home. My youngest decided that he didn’t want me to be alone for the holiday, so he opted to stay with me instead of going up to Ohio with his mom and brother. He also asked me to cook ham, sweet corn, and mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving dinner. I got the smallest spiral-cut glazed ham I could find, and cooked up a can of sweet corn, and made mashed potatoes from a box. I had never done this before because in Ohio there was always the in-group of family that took care of cooking, and I wasn’t part of that group.
My youngest said it was the best meal he had in a long time. He kept going back for more and more ham. As I was cleaning up, he commented how sad he’s going to be when we run out of the ham. His only criticisms were that the potatoes were a little plain in comparison to everything else, and that there needed to be a bitter side to offset the sweetness of everything else. Very high praise coming from him, as he’s still in the picky phase with his eating.
Now I sit waiting for the dishes to finish the wash cycle, while my kid is playing some Roblox game and my dog is laying beside him drifting off to sleep (she got her share of ham too).
Today was a really good day, and it would have been a shame not to share it with somebody.

Not as much as they would want you to believe. Most APIs are written once, and only updated if a major change in the backend happens. The majority of any operating costs would go into cloud services, if the telemetry from the car is sent to Tesla first. I don’t own a Tesla, so I don’t know for sure. I would imagine it’s, because that would allow Tesla better metrics on app usage.

Whose? Tesla or the app developers? I’m not against a business making a profit. It’s kind of the point. They provide some sort of service, and as a customer we pay some sort of fee. The problem as I see it, some companies (like Twitter, Reddit, and Tesla for example) are not balancing the age-old “supply and demand” model of economics. Of course that’s my opinion.

Yes, I didn’t account for the transaction fees. But I believe my point still stands. If people find enough value in it, they’d probably pay for it; and that’s why Tesla is charging what they are.

That said, this is not that as infeasible as it sounds. The dev for Tessie reportedly has 400k users. That’s roughly $12.50/month per user. Modestly speaking, if the dev charged their users $13/mo, he’d profit $2.4 million per year. For $15/mo, he would profit $12 million per year.
That’s probably what Tesla is hoping their devs would do. And I’m sure a lot of Tesla owners could afford the fee.

I have the same problem. I usually end up editing out a bunch of text, yet still end up with a wall of text. I’m sure there’s a balance in there somewhere between enough information and too much information. I also try to remove unnecessary words and phrases to be more concise. The lights are off, folded laundry at my feet, dog in my lap, my youngest at the end of the couch asleep, and my oldest tucked in under his blanket watching his first boxing matches, as we wait for the next fight on Netflix.

I always hit snooze on my alarm clock, but I jump right out of bed if I hear someone puking or gagging (e.g., kids or my dog).
A Social Etiquette Question
Alright, so my son is friends with a kid at his school, and through this I met his mother. She is a nice woman, who is attractive and friendly. What I do know about her is that she and her husband are separated and/or divorced. I do not know if she is seeing anybody.
I have an unsuccessful history of assuming things with women who are nice to me; i.e., I often confuse being nice with them showing a romantic interest, and that not being the case. Given that my son and her son are best friends, I do not want to make this mistake and make things awkward for anybody. Given my unsuccessful history of reading social cues, I want to be careful in how I interact with her.
I feel like I have three choices right now: I could continue my current course of action, and interact with her when my son and her son get together; I could text her and try to strike up a conversation out of the blue; or I could add her as a Facebook friend and from that angle try to strike up conversation.
I don’t necessarily want to go the “do nothing and hope it works out” approach, but I am not sure if I would make her uncomfortable by being too direct. I’m kind of leaning toward the Facebook option, but I am curious if I should ask her if she’s ok with me requesting to be her friend (and possibly sparking a conversation that way, but letting her know it’s okay to say no if she’s not comfortable with it).
And before anybody says it, yes I’m aware I’m probably overthinking it. 😊
It’s officially official!
As of 10:15am EST, I am no longer married. From what I’ve heard from other divorcees, my ex wife and I have had a unicorn of a separation; in that we still get along and work together for our kids. Regardless of how frictionless the process has gone, it’s still a relief to put that chapter to rest.

Carpet/Car Cleaning Advice
First of all, I’m not sure if this is the right community (other than it’s something I’ll be doing myself). So if anyone knows a better community to ask this, I’ll be happy to take my post over there.
Alright, I am looking to buy a portable/handheld carpet/upholstery wet/dry vacuum cleaner so I can detail my truck, clean up stains in my carpet/furniture, etc.
I was eyeing the Hoover CleanSlate Plus, but wanted to see what other units that might be better and/or more affordable? If it matters, my budget would be as close to $100 as practical, but there may be wiggle room for the right unit.

I have been looking for below-knee cargo shorts that have a gusset. Every short I buy inevitably rips in the crotch, and I feel a gusset would protect against that.

Question About Bamboo
Hopefully you all will be able to help me with some questions I have about growing bamboo.
I just had a fence installed, and unfortunately the ground is not flat, so there are some gaps at the bottom of the fence. I was thinking I could build some raised garden beds along the base of my fence to block the gaps, and pretty up what otherwise is a very crappy yard (no grass, mostly trees).
Since bamboo is pretty invasive, I know it’s not something I would want to just plant anywhere. I was wondering if it would make any difference if I planted the bamboo in raised garden beds? Would that make it easier to control? If not, is there some other low-maintenance plant I could use that would look good along a fence?
