I think she’s definitely a cut above your average pop singer just from sheer popularity, and most of her stuff isn’t bad but she definitely isn’t a super strong songwriter.
Honestly that's why I hate sports. It started out as just disliking it but after working food service my whole life I've grown to hate sports due to how much it affects my job.
Instagram. I have no interest in taking pictures or sharing things regularly. All the content looks so boring I don't get the appeal. Even on an interesting post the comments are borderline spam fire emojis and people saying let's go.
Any social media platform where you follow people instead of topics.
I have to just sort of flail about in the void looking for people in my same niche to follow, and by the exact same token, no one will ever look at anything I post unless one of the Popular Accounts™ re-shares it. What's worse, a re-share from a person with a lot of followers has more value than a re-share from an average Joe. That never sat right with me -- the idea that one person's opinions on what was and wasn't good were more valuable than everyone else's, and that everyone therefore competed for that person's attention.
That does make me miss how Facebook and Twitter used to be utilized with friends following each other and posting content that they made and not simply reposting everything that comes their way.
I do value the opinion of people I know but I want hear them say it not some larger personality.
Live TV is great. I have a live feed of a stork nest in the background, and you get to see it feed its chicks, teach them to fly, and murder a few depending on mood.
I hate commercials but sometimes still put on the live TV because I get really bad choice paralysis with streaming. Tv gives me a handful of options to narrow down. Even if i don’t love what I’m watching I don’t have to manually decide to pick it
It really was excellent in its infancy, once you'd honed your algorithm. Some of the funniest, sharpest content on the internet at the time, with a really tight knit in-joke machine - reminiscent of early internet communities. It boomered up and burnt out, but there was certainly a spark there.
Going to loud parties with more than 5 people. 1) loud things hurt my ears and give me a headache. 2) can't hear the person you're talking to anyways bc of loud. 3) why are there 50 people here? Past 5 ppl, you can't really talk to people well and the space gets crowded.
Watching TV series's. As a maker, I really just went to be making stuff all the time, and having to sit and dedicate my time to watching a show really does not interest me. I do like watching longform Nebula content while I'm doing other things though, like Philosophy Tube or Jet Lag: The Game. I also like reading books, just not tv or movies most of the time
Same for me and gaming. Thing is, I love games and always will, but I just don't have time in my day for it. Solution? Wait a year, read reviews of 1 or 2 best games of the year and then binge them 3 days straight without sleep and trainers (to level past the grindy aspects) until I'm sick of them.
Same with binge TV for me. Its just easier on my schedule if I can dedicate a one off time to it. It keeps me up to date with social trends, whilst not being a dominating factor in my life.
When I was a kid, an older kid peer-pressured me into smoking a cigarette. I smoked the whole thing and quickly noped out of that. Can't believe I made the best decision of my life at the age of 6.
This is a factually accurate statement, but it reads like you're encouraging someone to get into smoking cigarettes, which is (I thought) a myth invented by DARE types. Hey OP, speaking as someone with a 15 year off and on addiction to nicotine, steady on your course, bud.
Why would anyone want to drink something that tastes awful, so they can have a night of fun they probably won't remember, and wake up feeling awful?
If I'm gonna have a fun night, I want to remember it, not hear about it from others. And the risks are too great. Risk of doing something stupid I would never normally consider that could embarrass, injure, or kill myself or others.
If that's your idea of fun, more power to you, but I'll pass.
That's how Alcoholism or movies works, not a night out with some social drinks. I rarely drink but I've never not remembered stuff. I'm introverted, so a few drinks does actually help me losen up a little and have a better time. But it's not healthy, so it's rare that I do.
I think a lot of sweet things taste awful. But that doesn't mean I watch people drinking Coke and can't understand why they like it.
That's because taste is subjective. I only drink things I like. Do you really think people, other than teenagers experimenting, are drinking things they don't like?
And getting black out drunk, again young people aside, is not the aim.
I think you might be a bit sheltered. Not liking alcohol or drinking is fine and normal and should be encouraged for health reasons, but you've made some big assumptions about people.
Personally, I enjoy the drinks I'm drinking. And no, I'm not saying where it tastes like candy but I drink in the manner of responding "I don't understand the question." when I'm asked "What would you like with your gin?"
Part of what I drink helps because slamming it hurts, but I like that slight burn when sipping (Why yes I like spicy food too but I digress), that burn is a nice speed limiter so it takes a while to even get a buzz. There at the slight the term "social lubricant" shines. I'm not deep in my head, all the worries, anxieties, etc I can actually set aside and enjoy my time rather than going through the list of shit I need to get done a thirtieth time.
If you don't like it, it's perfectly fine, getting drunk is not something necessary to live life.
Ha! I like drinks so much (obviously) but as part of food culture more than drinking culture - I make delicious drinks, not awful ones, and hate being drunk so usually just have one and enjoy it. I think it's like coffee or complicated food flavors, not immediately enjoyable like cake might be, but once you appreciate the complexity, it is so very enjoyable.
Driving. If it's far enough away, I can ask for a ride. If it's any closer, I can walk. Most things I can walk to. I don't trust myself behind the wheel and don't feel comfortable contributing to the damage done by vehicles.
I don't think driving's really an activity that people get into, except in a small percentage of enthusiasts. Most people just drive because it's less inconvenient than the alternatives.
I don't understand how you pick a team if you werent born in an area with a team. Like, as a New Zealander, how can I get excited for a premiere league team that I essentially pick at random?
Just pick one. Or don’t. It’s okay to be a fan of the sport. Formula One is a good example. A lot do people have a favorite driver or team, I generally just enjoy the whole thing.
A lot of social media sites. Twitter, 4Chan, Tumblr, TikTok, Facebook, Discord, and so on.
There are various reasons for each but it frequently comes down to how much of it is people mindlessly reposting soulless clickbait and how hard it can be to find and track content relative to me.
Also idolizing and following celebrities. I mean I like Jake Gyllenhaal but I would be indifferent if they disappeared off the face of the Earth tomorrow.
It's an acquired taste. Back when I was a starving student and everyone was drinking cheap alcohol and living off 2-minute noodles, I acquired the taste
they're an awesome concept and I can see why they're enjoyable and therapeutic even for many people, but I just don't like breaking stuff it makes me anxious haha
Same. I like fixing broken things. Also, if a handle breaks off a mug it becomes a pen holder etc. We're drowning in our own rubbish so I don't understand making more being fun?
Like seeing food fights in movies (which I think is the only place this ever happens), it just looks like wasteful stupidity to me.
video games after the PS1 era. I grew up with the NES - PS1 then got tired of video games in college and never really get into games since and I find them to be a chore when I try, even the old ones I used to like. Strangely though I do enjoy repairing them and I've been slowly fixing the old stuff I had in boxes in my closet like an old Game Gear by replacing the capacitors updating the screen. I never once used it since LOL. I'll probably end up selling it or giving it to the kids
Jogging/Running outside and even indoors using a treadmill. Instead, i like walking outside and hiking, and within the gym, I like the crosstrainer and rower.
Not everyone has the ability to do that. It’s unhealthy to exercise near roadways, and a lot of people don’t have the means or ability to go to a nature space.
I'm no runner, I was always terrible at it since childhood. Anything above 100 meters was too long and I couldn't breath through it properly, which was quite a thing at school. I'm ordinary sized person, no (serious) health problem, just lack stamina for running.
But lately I found running to be quite "fun". Or better world would be "relaxing". I still suck terribly at it, but as I'm older, long gone from high school, I don't care. I live right at the edge of town so literally hundred steps to the nature, so once I feel like I need to empty my head, I go running. While I slowly choo choo around I can turn the brain completely off and just relax. And feel like dying later because I still lack the stamina past first kilometre lol.
I am not good at watching TV. I like it once a week or so but reading is so much more enjoyable for me than videos.
I'm not antisocial but quite socially lazy, I have never lived alone and grew up in a large family so not good at going out and partying, getting together, keeping up with friends. Reasonably good at hosting parties but that's different, it's like a puzzle to solve and is fun.
Watching TV with someone with your head in their lap. Someone to laugh at your bad jokes. Someone to steal your arm at night and use you as an extra blanket. Making breakfast in bed, travelling and bickering over minor things, watching a sunset together.
