US Muslim leaders who supported Republican Donald Trump to protest against the Biden administration’s support for Israel’s war on Gaza and attacks on Lebanon have been deeply disappointed by his cabinet picks, they tell Reuters.
“Trump won because of us and we’re not happy with his Secretary of State pick and others,” says Rabiul Chowdhury, a Philadelphia investor who chaired the Abandon Harris campaign in Pennsylvania and co-founded Muslims for Trump. Muslim support for Trump helped him win Michigan and may have factored into other swing state wins, strategists believe.
There won't be planes, or deportations. There will only be caged slave laborers in concentration camps owned by his friends, with the government (read taxpayers) paying the rent month after month, year after year.
I honestly have no idea how any Muslim could vote for Trump unless they were completely ignorant. He is not their friend by any stretch of the imagination. It's not going to end well for them.
Whether Israel gets the weapons from America, Russia, South Africa, Britain, Korea, China or wherever. They are going to find a way to arm themselves and defend themselves. Decades of warfare against other countries pushes the Israelis to commit some pretty disgusting acts. Trying to blame an American political party on either side is not an intelligent response.
Not to mention Trump's "sharpie realignment" of Israel's border during his last term. These people have rocks in their heads if they thought this was going to go any other way.
Trump is like everyone's marvel superhero, he's whatever they imagine they want, the alternative to everyone else... Even very legitimate and thought out criticism can somehow conclude with supporting Trump when that makes no sense.
You just look down on other people instead of trying to understand why they did what they did.
Strong anti-generalization assertion.
Except
You are the reason I dislike liberals.
Ah shit, you opened with a cheesy generalization. Validating to see the"every accusation is a confession" thing holds.
But let's get into it.
one was bad but could be swayed
one was worse on all counts for all criteria, was only getting worse, can't be fixed and would tear down all the checks and balances that make government work
They picked the second option, overwhelmingly, despite the massive damage to the very fabric of the nation and the insanely worse prospects for them as a recognizable minority.
So these people (conservatives ) do dumb things and often talk a lot of shit. Not sure why they should be coddled. Like they just need to be understood or something lol.
I love how you're getting downvoted for posting a graph with factual data on it. I guess this is the "less harm" that democrats keep pleasuring themselves over. Republicans are worse than democrats in general, but on this issue they really are the same. Ah, but we shouldn't let facts get in the way of people having fun mocking minorities having their relatives massacred in a genocide. Your factual data is really dragging the mood down in this party.
It's a post-truth world. Just...give up. We're all yelling into the void. These people are being force-fed "facts" consisting of cherry picked data and sound bites from every angle imaginable. It's their news. It's their friends. It's their family, and their neighbors. Their community leaders, and their social leaders, and their religious leaders. It's in their face, constantly, everywhere they go.
You can't compete with that. That's brainwashing on a societal level.
You can't both be right, and be victorious, in that environment. Simply because for the same amount of effort you put out expelling one falsehood, they can be exposed to a thousand more.
I give up. I have no more faith in humanity. People are proudly digging their heads into the sand to avoid hard truths and then act shocked when "I told you so". Fuck them, and fuck me for having to go down with them. Fucking children. Fucking ostrich children fucks. Pitiful. Repugnant. Deplorable.
You're blaming humanity for being the way that it simply is. The lesson is that people don't have the time or attention to fact check, and frankly I think we should have known that. We got complacent. So, now those of us who get it have to step in and make better competing systems.
If facts are going to win, it seems they need to win stealthily, really like they always have. Science and engineering took over the world with probably less than 1% of people really having any idea how anything actually works. Objective morality in terms of universal human rights and behavioral science can be integrated into a better regulated social media, for example. It just has to be more appealing somehow and easier to access. It also has to be sexy and come with some status, and other benefits.
I have no idea what that looks like, but thst is the mission progressives now must contend with. We have to win back people's attention and convince them ours is the better way for them.
Lol, no he didn't, he literally said his policy was to give Nethanyu a blank check and in the first term he kept trying to use nukes and was told not to by his staff.
Troll harder
PS: Kamela never shunned Palestinians either, Bill Clinton on the other hand...
Now that is just plain stupid. One can make a moral argument for not wanting to vote for genocide, since the situation is similar, but not the same(!), as the famous Trolley Problem. But actively voting for the other pro-genocide option because you believed him to be a peace candidate? ... This is something that needs honest analysis and reflection. Both by these voters as well as by the Democratic Party. How the hell could Trump with his abysmal record be perceived as the peace candidate by so many? I do expect though, that all the involved parties will learn the wrong lessons from this.
With all the blame, shaming and hate towards Muslim, Arab, African and Latino Americans we should also not forget: The only ethnic demographic from which Trump got a majority is: White voters.
Stupid people wanted to claim that Harris was "the same as" Trump. That's patently false. Someone else said it best. Most of these people are in their own echo chambers and trying to get them to actually behave and vote in their own best interest is becoming nearly futile these days. It's too easy for people to put themselves into those echo chambers.
Stupid people wanted to claim that Harris was “the same as” Trump.
What we have here are voters who thought Trump would be better than Harris, not the same. I can understand, even if it's technically wrong, when people feel that genocide is genocide. And they see what is happening there as an extension to them (which any psychotherapist who's dealt with someone of an ethnic group which is in war can attest to).
Most of these people are in their own echo chambers
Although this is most probably a factor, I believe this to be too simple an explanation. So about the media landscape: Yes. Especially the so-called 'new media' is seldomly truly independent but often biased in that they peddle this false narrative that Trump is a peace candidate. Also notable is that 'alternative media' is largely seen as independent from billionaires and power, while legacy media is an arm of the establishment. So the narrative of 'us vs. them' works even better and since the biggest names lean more right or are outright Republican propaganda channels, this could translate into more people who already resent the status quo falling for them. And thanks to the engagement-optimizing algorithms they fall into these echo-chambers. Sidenote: I'm not de-legitimizing alternative outlets, but want to stress the importance of scrutinizing how they finance themselves. We just had a case of one right-wing propaganda channel being exposed as being financed by a Russian oligarch for years. (I forgot the name)
One could also point to the rhetoric and behavior of the two candidates towards the pro-Palestinian population in the last few weeks and months before the election. One side didn't let Palestinian voices be heard and even actively and preemptively removed an elected Democrat from one of their own events, because he happened to be Palestinian American. Outside the DNC the protestors were met with disdain and ridicule by DNC delegates. And the other side came to speak lie to them about what he's gonna do and that he takes them seriously. People are gonna see this.
Or generally when Harris said that she wanted the 'most lethal military in the world', while the other side talked about ending wars 'within the first 24 hours'. Outrageous but a stark contrast.
Or the simple sentiment that with the Dems in power genocide is happening, so I'll roll the dice. The same anti-establishment sentiment that led to Trump in 2016 in the first place (economic in nature in 2016).
Talking about anti-establishment sentiment: I know of only one exception to this. But after COVID, there's only one incumbent party in the democratic world, that came out of elections still in power. And that's Mexico. If you know any others, please feel free to enlighten me.
The list is not extensive by any means and is just me spit-balling. If we want to understand what happened the answers are going to be much more complex.
Seriously? What did they think was going to happen with donvict in office? I just can't even right now. If I thought things would be any better in 4 years, I'd beg/borrow/steal to get on that 4 year cruise...
that's what musk was selling. to muslims and middle-easterners in michigan harris was a pro-israel, for pennsylvania's jewish population she was pro-palestine. and they were hyper-local with the targeting.. down to individual city blocks.
In the few days leading up to the election I got two texts, definitely crafted to seem like they were from a Harris aligned pac, but it was saying she was unreservedly behind Israel, and seemed off. I told them to fuck the selves and reported as spam
From the article, a little realization that the leopards are gonna eat some faces:
Hassan Abdel Salam, a former professor at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and co-founder of the Abandon Harris campaign, which endorsed Green Party candidate Jill Stein, said Trump's staffing plans were not surprising, but had proven even more extreme that he had feared.
"It's like he's going on Zionist overdrive," he said. "We were always extremely skeptical...Obviously we're still waiting to see where the administration will go, but it does look like our community has been played."
But seriously, how would anyone imagine that the guy who banned Muslim refugees from entering the US wouldn't be anti Muslim?
All this reporting reminds me of the "But actually this Man on The Street Hated Brexit even though he voted for it" slew of stories.
It's all just nutpicking. You'll find far more Muslim Trump voters who don't know who any of these people are. And you'll find plenty who are clapping like seals, because they're just as Murdoch Pilled and MAGA headed as their white peers.
I refuse to believe that people would be stupid enough to expect somebody who banned people from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from even entering the USA in his first term to be pro-Gaza...
Nah, I actually think minorities voted more for Trump because the right have more socially conservative policies.
That’s what I believe as well. Far left social issues should not be at the forefront of the campaign. Majority of Hispanic people I spoke to said they voted for trump either because economy, or because they didn’t agree with the Dems stance on trans rights. I’m all for equality but there are more pressing matters than which bathroom a person can use or should trans people be allowed to compete in a certain sport. Let the state decide and move on. Stop alienating the majority of Americans for less than 5% of the population.
“Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what the hell is going on.”
POTUS45 knew it was a one-time grift so there are no repercussions for him for abandoning his electorate.
POTUS45 repeatedly stated his desire to help Israel and not even once hinted at idea of peace for Gaza.
Haris clearly was trying to evade direct answers to Gaza questions which left significant room for after-election change
Democrats suck (at messaging, at fighting back and at playing hard ball)
Putting up ultimatums in the middle of election is doomed to failure. I can't recall one instance where it was successful. I can recall however when existing administration, outside of election cycle, yielded to public pressure...
so with just more obvious facts on the table the entire notion of giving Dems middle finger and literally helping Republicans win was not merely misguided but malicious. Being surprised by the outcome does not speak highly of people involved and their priority. If their priority was stopping the bloodshed they would've acted differently, by all means that priority was mainly middle finger to Dems.
I am acutely aware that people are dying and between two administrations the difference is at what scale and whether public has any sway with administration. Present choice out of the gate pointed for larger scale suffering and no public input.
US elections are not pragmatic - they are spectacle of emotions, which is why public elects showman.
We're gonna see a lot more "Experts baffled Trump did x thing" and the word "unprecedented" show up in headlines again for at least the next four years. Sleep in the bed you made, fuckwads.
Behind door #1: Isn't as one-sided as you regarding a war in another country that involves your religion.
Behind door #2: Tried to enact laws that openly discriminate against your religion just a few years ago. And is also totally one-sided against you regarding that same war.
Behind door #1: Isn’t as one-sided as you regarding a war in another country that involves your religion.
They're way more one-sided about the "war" (genocide) than I imagine the vast majority of Muslim and pro-Palestinian voters are, just in the wrong direction. What part of unconditionally supplying weapons to a country that is indiscriminately slaughtering civilians is "not one sided," oh "rational_lib?"
It's not one-sided because Trump is what one-sided looks like. Democrats still support trying for a Palestinian state, while Trump wants Israel to not stop at Gaza but take what remains of the West Bank too. You don't get to define the sides the way you want, we're still dealing with the American public here - and the American public is very anti-muslim and militaristic (I mean we do have to live in a world where 9/11 happened - which, by the way, was one of the more egregious examples of the counter-productive effect of attempts to make Americans care about Palestine).
I'm the last to justify continuing aid to Israel, but if you don't understand the political difficulty of removing that aid you're just not paying attention. This will be seen as a win for Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah and the backlash will be massive with lots of accusations that Democrats are embracing anti-semetism. And Democrats know from past causes like BLM that the same people advocating very forcefully for changing policy will morph into crickets when it comes time to defend those changes from backlash, having moved on to more exciting causes. So yeah, I disagree with aid to Israel but I can't really blame them.
Isn’t as one-sided as you regarding a war in another country
Dems pandered to an Israeli government that was actively campaigning for their opposition. This wasn't just "your anti-genocide views are simply too extreme for the average American voter". It was "Netanyahu is funneling Russian money and propaganda into the Republican campaign apparatus while you keep telling him he's a good boy on national TV."
It's crazy how many prefer to blame the uncommitted movement, people who fought the hardest to change the Democratic Party's unconditional support for genocide through every democratic channel possible, over the Democratic Party for refusing to change position, at the cost of critical voters in swing states.
I would expect a campaign who's key concern is winning against a fascist to do everything in their power to win as many votes as possible.
You forget why trump is even a thing in national politics...
In 2015 when the primaries happened Hillary's campaign controlled the DNC and pushed for trump because he was the worst possible opponent and they thought it would scare people into voting for Hillary despite her being wildly unpopular.
They're 1 out of 3, but the DNC leadership loves trump because he lets them run even less popular moderates and take bribes from even worse industries/billionaires while still having a 33% chance of winning.
To them, it's a smart bet.
Which is why we shouldn't let them anywhere near the DNC.
They could have easily beat trump, but the want the awful "compromises" they say they have to do to win elections. It's why they keep saying it despite it never helping
This wasn't a no-brainer. There were far more Jewish people who'd tank the election toward Trump and give us this same shit show. The only viable hope was intense pressure afterward. Trump was always far more likely to backstab than Kamala, at least with her there was a chance of stronger pressure than Biden, vs. zero pressure from Trump.
[Scene opens on a wide, desolate savanna at dusk. The camera slowly pans over a leopard lying under a tree, its large body barely able to move. The sun is setting, casting a cold, dim light over the scene. Soft wind rustles through the dry grass. The leopard’s eyes are dull, its breathing labored.]
Narrator (soft, somber voice):
In the wild, leopards are meant to stalk, to hunt, to climb. But for some, this is no longer possible. These are the leopards of the forgotten savanna... the ones who can no longer live the life they were born to lead.
[Cut to a close-up of another leopard, this one lying next to a watering hole, panting heavily. The camera lingers on its enormous, bloated body, its paws barely able to reach the ground. The leopard’s eyes seem vacant, devoid of the wild spark they once had.]
Narrator:
Overfed and unable to move, these leopards have been left to a slow, painful existence. They can no longer hunt their prey, no longer climb the trees to escape danger, no longer feel the thrill of the chase. They are trapped in their own bodies.
[Cue the soft, mournful opening chords of "Angel" by Sarah McLachlan. The camera slowly pans over a third leopard, sluggishly trying to rise, but its massive weight prevents it from standing. It lets out a heavy sigh, its once-strong legs buckling beneath it.]
Narrator:
They are the forgotten victims of a world that has abandoned them. Too fat to run, too weak to fight... These leopards are slowly fading, one breath at a time. They need your help.
[Cut to a shot of a leopard staring out over the savanna. The camera lingers on its face, eyes half-closed, its expression one of quiet resignation.]
Narrator:
For just $3 a day, you can provide the care and support these leopards so desperately need. A donation will help give them the chance to live a life of dignity. Help them find their way back to the wild they were meant to roam.
[The music swells as the camera fades to black, and the words "Your donation can make a difference" appear in white text on the screen.]
Narrator (whispering):
Please, don’t let them suffer in silence. The time to act is now.
[The music fades out, and the SPCA logo appears in the corner, along with a toll-free number and website for donations.]
Why not Latinos, who had a major shift in voting from 2020? This is at least the 7th article I’ve seen today, across multiple news sites, pushing the narrative that Muslims “made a mistake,” or “regret their vote.” A couple only had one individual quote. That is not indicative of a widespread belief. From the interviews I’ve seen, from the Uncommitted delegates and Muslim American leaders in Dearborn, their votes (or lack of) were intentional and deliberated.
Not to say that there aren’t many Muslims that don’t have this opinion; they aren’t a monolith. But, to generalize an entire community this way is negligent journalism.
CAIR also released Michigan-specific responses from 502 registered Muslim voters, revealing that Dr. Stein received 59% support, with Trump at 22% and Harris at 14%.
Stop blaming minorities that their families being killed by you make them reluctant to vote for you is my message to the blue MAGA ghouls in the comments.
I get that voting for a party that is funding Israel is hard for Muslims but seriously, voting for Trump expecting that support for Israel would be dialed down is just fucking stupid beyond belief. He stated his views about Palestine, FFS, you don't have to guess
True Trump is also terrible about the ongoing genocide. But for one the only possible place where the Muslim vote may have influenced the election is Michigan and even then most like most people didn't vote at all and those who did where something like 40 percent to trump 37 to Harris and 15 to Stein, I just hate some democrat loyalists are blaming either Arabs, Latino's or black men for going slightly more towards trump than usual and ignoring how the democrats threw all the issues they care about under the bus to appeal to the mythical hoards of "never trump republicans" and also that Trump main base is still white males. It just makes me uncomfortable when i see for example white men blame black male misogyny for a slight trump shift over previous elections when close to 80% of black males still voted Harris in direct contradiction to white men.
They were upset by the democrats as well, which is probably why they turned to the only other party in the country. I know people are going to rush in and say "but the democrats would be better than trump!!" and that may be true to some extent, but the genocide started and progressed unabated under democrats. I guess Muslims can just get fucked, huh folks?
The genocide started in 2020? I kind of thought maybe there was some conflict in the region prior to that...but now I understand it was the Democrats that did everything and I will vote for Republicans, the party that specifically hates Muslims, instead.
More accurately the genocide started when israel was being established, but it greatly ramped up in 2023. I know you want to take the heat off of democrats, but they are just as complicit in this genocide. Yes, republicans are worse in general, but that does not absolve democrats of giving billions in support of genocide.
I mean, these people (the leaders in the article) threw basically any minority group in the US and all of Ukraine under the bus to make their point. I'm not gonna say anything about all Muslims, but these leaders can definitely get fucked.
Don't worry, they have plenty like the above commenter who are willing to give them plenty of asspats and play apologist about how they opted to kill more of the people they supposedly want to save AND massacre American minorities.
They weren't thrown under the bus, they were already lined up in front of the bus by democrats who then pointed at the republican bus driver and screamed that they would be driven over if they didn't vote democrat.
Hahaha yeah fuck those muslims who refused to vote for Harris. Death to them, and their children! This is all their fault, and definitely not the fault of the democrats for running on a republican light platform! Vote blue everyone!
Hear hear! I mean, how dare they not vote for the democrats? Don't they know how this works? Do they think the parties are supposed to "earn" their votes by campaigning for policies that will benefit the electorate? That's fucking childish!
